Problems come up with possible Panthers HQ move to SC

Agreed but living outside downtown is nice.  Mount Pleasant is lovely but expensive.  Surprisingly Mt Pleasant is listed as SCs 4th largest city.  The islands are great and Johns Island is insanely affordable but they will need to improve infrastructure.  I avoid downtown 355 days a year but its nice for date night or to go to the upper peninsula which is littered with chill restaurants and breweries.  Easy to enjoy Charleston and avoid the tourists assuming your job doesn't thrust you into them.

Mt. P has turned into a madhouse compared to 15 years ago though. Used to be a breeze to get from downtown to the IOP connector. That's a chore these days. I think you could probably damn near get down to Edisto by the time you could get out to IOP.

To me, the advantage of living and working downtown is that you really don't need to ever get in your car unless you're leaving downtown. The obvious downsides being dealing with the tour-ons and $$$.

there are like 5 nice cities in SC

charleston

greenville

fort mill (might as well be NC)

columbia

hilton head

other than that yeah it sucks and rock hill definitely sucks, so it is dumb for us to want to move team HQ there (though I do hope it happens)

PS: i can be swayed that columbia sucks too but it has made some drastic improvements over the 10 or so years i've been here. still a stupid college town though.

Hey!  Rock Hill sucks ALOT less than it used to!  (only saying this because I live there).  For real though, Rock Hill has vastly improved over the past 10 years and is committed to continuing that judging from current projects already in the works.  Yeah, it's no Charlotte, but it ain't no Gastonia either!

This guy's a freshman from Columbia. I think he's just being an ass about it to make a name for himself.

Maybe or he may be someone actually trying to make a fiscally sound decision in this day and age. It's a rarity, it might even be a unicorn event, but woudn't it be nice?

I love me some football, but I am tired of the billionaire boys clubs fleecing cities and states out of hard earned tax dollars to support businesses that make billions of dollars in profits. In a time when people have to send school supplies in to budget-strapped teachers, I'm not sure we should be helping finance Tepper's hobby investment with tax money.

Go Panthers! but y'all need to quit riding up to the corporate welfare office in your Maseratis.

I lived down there from 98-08, loved it, but would be hard pressed to go back.  You're about right on the DT to IoP trip almost being as bad as getting to Edisto.  My parents live on IoP now and when I visit, we rarely venture off IoP or Sullivans.

Without turning this into a Tinderbox thread, yes to all of this.

Sullivan's is where we'd always go to the beach. Nice and quiet compared to IOP or Folly.

If you haven't been to Hunting Island you're missing out. Hunting Island/Beaufort is probably my favorite area of SC these days.

honestly if you are going to go to hilton head or Charleston, you may as well take the trip to Savannah its better than the both and you can always stop by Hilton Head and Hunting Island because they are so close.

I definitely prefer Charleston over Savannah personally, but admittedly that might just be due to the nostalgia of having lived in Chucktown (165A Queen Street, still remember it well). I don't have any use for HH.

But I agree, if you're not from the area and on vacation and going to either, I'd do an overnighter to the other as well.

I just love staying in the historical district everything is walking distance, it just 30 mins to the beach. I even saw Gronk walking around once. He was everything you would expect. I guess you can say i have a bit of nostalgia myself.

165a Queen, eh.  I lived around the corner at 61a Logan, as 134a Wentworth.  Good times.

You can shorten that list to Greenville and Charleston IMO . Hilton Head is just a resort, far from a "city". Columbia is a pure shithole.

My wife went to CofC and I like Charleston, but I couldn't live there. The touristy aspect would drive me nuts pretty quickly and the traffic downtown is brutal. The Greenville area is the only area of SC I'd personally even consider.

any Panther employee that would go through 1 Columbia summer would immediately start looking for a new job.  They call it the screen door to hell for a reason.
