Kemba made All NBA third team, so the money to keep him went up to 221m or 38 per season.

Ugh, no, just no. Love Kemba, but he is not a cornerstone piece. He would be a great 2nd or 3rd guy on a championship team.

They've got to at this point, just letting him walk for nothing would make them look foolish for turning down all the trades they were offered.

The more this unfolds, fug the PR hit.  Let him go.  Stay away from any Super Max deals IMO.  Ridiculous

44 mil per for 5 years?  Naw man

Seriously...fug the NBA model right now.  Ludicrous

Look at giannis supermax deal, avg of nearly 50m a year. Last two years at 52m and 56m. 100% completely ridiculous.

Here is a thought...make a run at D’Angelo Russell?  He will be expensive but 23 and had a great year.  Much cheaper than Kamba obviously.  The Nets would have to decide not to pay him but an option.

Russell is not good. High volume low efficiency chucker.

lol this is far from a given, just means we can now offer up to that much. All his selection does is give us more leverage to negotiate over other teams, who can still only offer 141. I'd think it'd be much more likely that we just go a little into the super max, maybe 190 or 195. Another possibility is trying to sign him for only 3 or 4 years so we're not stuck with the contract when he's 34. Our front office isn't the best, but they have a job for a reason... Surely they're not going to give the full 221/5 to a 29 year old 6 foot 1 point guard..

With all of this said, really happy for Kemba making the third team, huge career accomplishment. Well deserved.

We should have traded him and tanked. 7-8 seed is only good for 1st round sweeps.

Yeah, agreed. Except this year. When the Suns, Hawks, and Bulls all tried to tank and ended up out of the Top 3. So, they're all about to be screwed if they didn't scout properly.

They could've gave a 5/191 before this. He will see a bunch of that super Max if not all of it to stay in Charlotte. Team has already said it would do everything to keep him. That means offering him the supermax.

Ah forgot about that, thought it was closer to 180. 200 then maybe? 205? I don't entirely trust what the team has said publicly, shelling out that much money is a big commitment.
