He's also said that he doesn't know if he will resign and to do so the Hornets have to make moves to get pieces. They have nothing asset wise to accomplish that goal. He even hinted he wouldn't meet with them before making his decision unless they made moves and got it figured out.

If we lose Kemba, I feel we messed up not trading him mid-season.     If we are going to lose him it would be nice to get a sign and trade.

I'm really not sure if we should keep or let him go, right on the fence about it.

To most that's definitely the case, with Kemba... Not likely the case. 

 

Walker explained that he wants the higher-ups in Charlotte to provide him with some talent that can help the team become a legit contender. Until the happens, Walker won't be committing to anyone.

"I'm not sure," Walker told NBA.com when asked if he'd be back with the Hornets. "I have a long time to even start thinking about that stuff. Me and my agent, my family, we will discuss that stuff when the time is right."

 

Kemba wants to win above all else, these are direct quotes from him in his presser. Key word is legit contender, he wants at least a second star in Charlotte before he resigns.

But that's the flipside to those who think it's smarter to just let him walk at this point...  if we were gonna let him walk, then they should've traded him last offseason or before the deadline during the season...  otherwise, now they'd be letting a valuable asset walk for nothing.  

It's the same crap Gettleman said he would never do, but always did and it set us back years, even when we had success.  He said you don't draft and develop talent to let it walk out the door (but he did, repeatedly).  For those complaining about how dumb our FO is and what losers we are, you can't have any more loser of a move than letting Kemba, a drafted and developed talent, walk for nothing.

They have no choice but to re-sign him if he's willing, from a business perspective...  he is an asset.  He is our best asset.  We have to keep him.

If it takes trading Bridges, and Monk among other players to get players that Kemba wants on the team for him to resign is it worth it? He's wants to win and be on a legit contender and has said that ball is in Charlotte's hands now. He wants the team to improve the players on the roster, so it isn't a question of making the playoffs but can they make the finals. Only way to do that is use the assests that the team does have to make a trade.

TBH, I'm prepared to have to move some pieces to improve.  I'd like to keep Bridges and Bacon in particular, but outside of them and Kemba, everyone else is up for grabs, IMO.  The potential move I'm concerned about is trading our pick this year to move Batum.  I'm worried about that one because we need the pick, as we need to keep bringing in young players to develop...  but, we also need to get rid of Batum to improve the roster.  Only thing I can think of doing is using a future first to unload him, but I doubt we get another team to bite on that.  As bad as he sucks, teams are gonna want some immediate compensation.

But in summary, yes, I think that's worth it.  As I mentioned in another post, the alternative route to improve is going in the tank for years, and as mediocre as we've been since we got our franchise back, I just don't know how our fanbase could handle that.

We can retain Kemba is still improve in time to contend in the East before he starts to decline.

At this point, they have no choice but to make him some kind of max offer. There's no doubt the Hornets can (and will) offer him more money than anyone else. 

If Kemba leaves, it'll be because he wants to win. Not because of money.

They're on record as saying they didn't trade Kemba because they planned on re-signing him. An intention they reiterated during Kupchak's press conference. 

Let him walk for nothing, without even making a contract offer, and they look like even bigger morons for not trading him.
