Panthers have spent "considerable time" with Will Grier

Some of you still have not come to terms with the completely obvious.

Cam could not throw the ball over 20 yards for half the season. Since then, he has had another shoulder procedure.

The situation is completely and utterly volatile. There is an equal chance that Cam is done as there is that Cam will be able to last a season.

Now pretend your job depends on the Panthers performance this year. You ok with that 50% chance or will you at least make it look like you recognized the problem and planned for a contingency to ownership?

I would rather not take any QB in this draft if cam is done then tank the season with what we have next years draft will have real franchise QBs coming out to pick from. So this year build the fronts and next year pick your franchise QB

You don't tank a season for sixty plus guys because one guy is hurt, even if that guy is your franchise quarterback.

Losing seasons have consequences. Are you going to tell a guy in his contract year or a young guy who's trying to make the team "Sorry, we have to suck this year because we really only care about the quarterback"?

I don't mind us taking a flyer on a QB, but those first two rounds of picks need to be STARTERS.

If Cam breaks again this season, then let the season go, find out what Kyle Allen has.  If he's the answer, great.  If not, you've got a top 10 pick next draft to get your QB of the future.

And the players, coaches and whomever who suffer consequences because of how badly we lose, we just tell "too bad for you"?

Here is what we know:  Last year, down the stretch, our QB could not throw  the ball 30 yards.

He had shoulder surgery to remove scar tissue, but there is some concern that he could have a deteriorating condition in his shoulder.

There has been little feedback about Cam this off-season, except for the fact that he is a celibate, vegan, cigar bar owner who is considering a tattoo.

I am completely ok with this. Just because next year's QB class is much better there is no reason not to invest in security and options. There is no reason to believe just because next year's class is better, a franchise qb will be as simple as choosing one with the top pick. It's not that easy.

I don't think anyone knows how Cam is going to preform and that in itself is reason to start looking elsewhere. His upcoming contract is another big reason.

Only people mad at this are fanboys, and who cares.

Stidham stinks! I'd sincerely rather throw Kyle Allen out there than JS.

Honestly, any day two quarterback would make me want to take a hostage. Get one early on day three, if you want. Be my guest! We've just got too many holes on the starting offense and defense that need to be addressed in the first two days. OL/DL/S. These three areas need to be addressed early.

Why does everyone assume it's impossible for the GM / staff to go talk to the owner?  I mean seriously.  Tepper understands the situation.

But here's the real deal for you.  In the last five drafts, 59 QB's have been selected.  Now, let's assume for the sake of sanity that we aren't using our first round pick on a QB.  If we are, then Cam is done, and we'd better be moving up to take one of the first two QB's.  I think we can rule that out.

Having done that, here we are in round 2.  Do you know how many QB's have been picked in R2 over the last five years?  Two.  One of those two was Derek Carr, whose slide from round 1 was a thing of legend.  The other was Christian Hackenberg.  Round two is not where you find a QB.  The guys who are thought to be "locks" are all gone by round two, and then after that it's all a crapshoot.

So yea, if we want to take a flyer on a guy in Round 3+, fine.  Those guys aren't starters anyway.  But you don't take a QB in round 2, and if you want to take a round 1 QB, you better be ready to start him.

So you wanna be the guy that tells Greg Olsen, "Hey Greg, we know this might be your last season, and we appreciate all the hard work you've done, but we're just gonna mail it in this year."

How about the other guys who put themselves through all the trouble of going through training camp, practice, putting their bodies on the line and all of that. Want to tell those guys, "Hey, sorry.  We know this was your shot and all, but this season doesn't really matter to us."

This isn't Madden where you can just waste a season and hit reset. There are real world consequences for a lot of people. Are we seriously want to just tell all of those people, "Yeah it's really all about one guy, so ya know, too bad."

I'd add that the idea that an owner is going to accept that we're gonna lose a year for that reason is pretty farfetched. Try going to your boss and saying "Hey, our performance is going to suck this year but we'll do better next year. You okay with that?"
