TMZ trying to start poo with Torrey Smith

I don't know where he lives, but in south Carolina feral hogs are a problem.  My neighbor used to hunt them a friend's farm near Florence.  His friend was very grateful to have someone harvesting them.  And yes, we'd eat em up.

Also, I'm an animal lover.  I don't like people hunting for sport, but I have no problem with hunting for food and fun.

Nowhere near the dent that needs to be put in that population. those things can reproduce at 13 months and live for about 8 years. In that lifespan they'll have two litters a year and each litter will have on average about 6 piglets but as many as 12.

They do massive damage to agriculture, over a billion a year nationwide and that doesn't include the amount of money spent trying to control that population. They've only just begun to spread in NC in the last few years and we're getting ready to see it spread statewide soon and with it millions of dollars in damage done to crops.

Great response by Torrey.

Overpopulation of feral hogs and deer are not only a nuisance and not only a cause of significant financial damage, but are also a significant danger.

Feral hogs are extremely aggressive.

Deer are extremely stupid and run out in front of vehicles.

Also, not surprised to see Torrey kneeling.

Got no problem with this, dude is eating what he kills. He’s lucky he isn’t the poacher who got ate by lions.

I may have heard it incorrectly, but wasn’t the full story a rhino poacher attacked by elephants and eaten by lions?

Mother Nature was definitely pissed, lol.

It's shocking that NC hasn't had a much bigger feral hog problem for a long time given the huge hog production in the state. The vast majority of feral hogs are escaped farm animals. They go feral QUICKLY.

Growing up in western NC, there were always wild hogs but they were honestly pretty few and far between.

The population is spreading from the southwest, but we've also got a large population of pigs that are coming from the east thanks to damage done by hurricane Floyd. that hurricane hit pig farmers hard, letting thousands go wild and that population has done nothing but grow. middle NC is essentially surrounded and it's only a matter of time before we feel it like texas and other areas ravaged by it.

it is pretty good eating too. I don't want to say i like it more than venison, but you sure can do a lot more with it. deer is a lot easier to process and so far it's been overly prolific around here. coyote population is getting heavier and I hear them just about every night, but so far the hogs are still about an hour away.

Yeah, it seemed like the coyotes came back to western NC when the wild turkeys bounced back. Growing up as a kid, you never saw either. It was in the early '90s when the turkeys started coming back and by the late '90s/early '00s they were thick. The coyotes followed a few years later. I bet the bobcat numbers are stronger too, but those damn things are so elusive you rarely see them anyway.

Good for Torrey and good for the local environment, too. The more we can cull the wild hog population, the better for everyone. Besides the damage they do to crops and the danger they pose to people, they can carry diseases (brucelosis, etc) that can harm commercial livestock, native species and humans directly.

Take the bacon from the hog and grind it in with the deer burger.  BOOM juicy deer meat with extra flavor.
