Let’s put this poo into perspective...

The Canes were in fuging 28th place at Christmas and just beat the defending Stanley Cup Champions... We were going to be picking third in the draft... third... and now this.

I text my Caps buddy that a month ago. He was like "what you guys have done is impressive." Pretty sure he's not as impressed now. LOLZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ.

It was crazy, I missed the start of the game. Came in at 1-0, saw the second caps goal. Saw the penalty against Carolina. Put my phone down for 20 seconds and Aho scored the shorty. Started watching again and caps got the break away 3-1 goal. Put the phone down to start cooking and missed turbos goal. At that point I turned it off since when I wasn't watching good things happened. Lol

First ice hockey I have ever watched.   I don't know what icing is, what the lines in the rink are, and I had to Google how many periods in a game and rules for ties.  I only watched because of the excitement in this thread, to see what it is all about.

All that said, I was just as excited during overtime periods as I am watching the Panthers drive for a game winning score in the 4th quarter.

I might need to read up on the rules so I can understand what is going on.

Welcome to hockey, best damn sport in the world. Playoff hockey Is a different breed compared to anything else in the sporting world. Most exciting, nerve racking experience you can find sport wise.

@Jeremy Igo thanks for keeping these threads here on the main board during the off-season. This post alone makes it worth it. I haven’t been a huge hockey guy either but got more into it lately because I needed something to do during Panthers off-seasons. Basketball is tough for me too with how hard it is to compete as a small market team but I’ve watched the Hornets more recently too. And I can’t stand baseball but I’m sure if Carolinas ever get a team I’d atleast follow it and probably watch it.

Basically, building up all of Carolina’s sports fan bases is a good thing and the teams should all support each other.

ncpantherfan71 : I can try to help a bit and if you have any questions feel free to ask here and I’ll explain.

The lines on the rink are for defining zones. The neutral zone is between the two blue lines, the red line at center ice is just the center line and the red lines at the ends of the rink are the goal lines.

Icing is when a team shoots the puck straight down the ice from behind the center line past the opposing team’s goal line and the opposing team gets to the puck first. Then the next faceoff is in the zone of the team who ices it and the team who ices it cant change players leaving possibly very tired players on the ice in the danger of their own zone.

Ties in playoffs as you can probably tell now become OT where it’s sudden death, first goal wins. In the regular season it becomes a 5 minute OT 3 on 3 sudden death, before going to shootout if no one scores in OT.

I’m a football guy through and through but yeah hockey is a blast in the playoffs. Especially with the Canes in it.
