Outside of Aho, Staal, and Faulk I'm clueless on who to look out for (and why) on the team. I've been trying to get back into hockey and basketball and have focused on trying to catch up with the Hornets this season and last. Any recommended articles to read or videos to watch that will help me learn more about the Hurricanes?

Justin Williams is one to look out for and Nino. Both have been huge in game winning goals. Peter Mrazek has arguably been the best goalie in the NHL for the past few months.

The concept of marketing to an unreached and for the most part largely ignored fan base makes no sense to you?

Do you understand how search engines and marketing works? There are a lot of Carolinians that would love to talk hockey but when you type "Carolina Hurricanes Message Board" into Google this site isn't even on the first page.

In fact, there are people in this very thread (and on this forum) who have stated that they didn't realize that the Canes even made the playoffs and are now excited about the possibility of a franchise from their own state making a run toward a championship.

Getting more "likes" means more money for Mr. Igo, something he is probably very fond of. If he wants to move it then let him.

Regardless, you can still talk football.. hell, I did not too long ago in the David Montgomery thread. It's not exactly rocket science to scroll past this thread if you don't want to talk about the CAROLINA Hurricanes.

Rookie 2nd overall pick Andrei Svechnikov has had some amazing plays that make you go wow, and he’s progressed all year. He’ll be a big factor in the playoffs, if he turns it on we’ve got a much better shot. He had some problems with dumb penalties and discipline on defense earlier but he’s been much better in that regard lately. 

Teuvo Teravainen has been on fire and has been driving the offense on that second line with Staal. 

Hamilton started the year slow but has re-established himself as an elite offensive defenseman, while also being rock solid in our own zone. 

Pesce and Slavin are lockdown D too and have some offensive chops.

Mrazek and McElhinney have been pretty close a lot of the year but lately Mrazek has completely pulled away and been one of the best goaltenders in the league in his past 15 or so starts. He should be the guy unless/until he shits the bed in a couple straight starts. And if he plays the way he’s played lately, I really like our chances. He’s a unique goalie who can make some absurd saves but also let in some terrible goals (those have been very few lately) though the important thing is he can easily shrug those off and doesn’t get rattled by getting scored on. He’s a fiery and passionate dude and it’s a blast to watch him play when he’s playing well. Try to find the OT game against I think Philly where he had like 4 or 5 insane saves in a row before we won.

There's plenty of highlights and recaps of games on YouTube and on the team's social media accounts (not to mention Sara Civian's reporting with The Athletic).

 

Get excited folks. This team is red hot right now and about to face a division rival and defending champ Capitals team
