I don’t think we’ve shown any interest in him. Personally, I think the day 2 tackles might be as good for us because I think Moton can handle the LT spot. I just don’t want to not get a stud DL because we grabbed our 3rd tackle. Reminds me of Butler thinking about Williams leaving. What if he’s healthy and he stays? We have a bunch more cap next year.

Probably true.  I saw we only looked at Andre.  I guess if Norv wants to focus on a zone scheme Andre might excel since hes got the feet.  Obviously I prefer Jawaan Taylor and Jonah Williams. Andre makes me nervous but so does Burns.  Ferrell would be ready to play immediately but Burns has the athletics to be a better player later.  They all make me nervous.  Gary and Sweat would be much better but little chance we get them.

Oliver and Wilkins are the only 2 DT I would like there at 16. Oliver wont make it, but Wilkins is the poor mans option. Thats no slight on Wilkins-- Ive seen him mocked as high as 11th and seen him mocked over Oliver a few times.

Cody Ford is interesting.  Hes a Jeff Otah for me-- big aggressive nasty-- can be put at Guard but has some feet to play right tackle if Williams leaves or gets hurt after his one year deal.  Frees up a lot of cap next year not signing Williams again too.

It did say that Hurney was at the pro day but not who he was looking at. Between Jonah Williams, Deionte Thompson, Irv Smith Jr and Mack Wilson there are tons of options.

Also, interestingly enough its hard to find any reports of private visits with many Alabama players

Greedy Williams is the name to watch out for. If he drops I think we take him over Burns/Ferrell. Greedy has tons of potential and has a higher ceiling than those DE's imo. Like I said it all depends on who is available at pick 16.

Sweat is my dream choice, im hoping his medical condition scares some teams away and he drops to us.

I could see Greedy being the pick over those 2. He would have to be in the BPA conversation in that group.

take the best player, don’t reach for a bust.

Exactly, no need to reach on a need if a player doesn't have the value of a 1st round pick.

Honestly im not loving the Burns interest, seems like another gamble on a player who is light in the cakes and played in the ACC. Only reason Burns makes sense is if we are truly all in on the 3-4 defense. Even then I still don't see what makes him special on film.

Everyone knows by now Im biased towards OT in Jawaan Taylor and Jonah Williams.  With that being said, as I also stated, all the offensive line additions this week and depth suggests there are more Defensive line BPA Hurney is looking at 16.  Now, those can all be camp fodder and be a smoke screen and we will see.

For now we have scrubs at DE and or OLB if we wanted to do that.  Burns yes has Everette Brown part 2 written all over him except hes a lot faster if memory serves(I think Brown was much slower right?)  We do have Rivera now instead of Fox and company-- Rivera is light years ahead of John Fox on 3-4 and hybrid formations-- remember Fox being determined to have a 4-3, with the same rigid coverage that got us killed against Arizona?  Fox was also heavily invested in scheme over players and rushing 4 with 7 in coverage---- Rivera has shown a lot more fluidity and aggression.

Therefore I have infinitely higher hopes for Burns if thats the pick. Sweat has about a 5% chance of making it to 16 but he would be the pick out of the 2 of them--- not sure where they grade Gary between the 3 but I would guess Gary, Sweat, Burns.

Ferrell is much better than people dump on him.  Ive watched enough of his highlights to believe he can also play OLB when needed especially on the strong side.

Honestly I believe I will stick to Gary, Oliver, Sweat, Jawaan Taylor in a group followed by Jonah Williams, Burns, Ferrell and Andre in the 2nd BPA grouping(excluding the outside possibility that we are all nuts and Hurney takes Greedy or someone else).

Your first group of players are projected to all be gone according to most reputable mocks.  Three of the four in your second grouping should still be there minus one of the O-linemen.  I've seen it almost evenly split in mocks who goes off the board first between Jonah and Andre.  So if OL is the way the team is leaning at #16, at least one of those two guys should be available.  Ferrell stands a good chance of being there also and honestly it seems the Panthers are the only team looking at Burns mid-round one.  I would be utterly shocked if Burns is gone by #16.

All could be off the board. Then what?

Anything past that point you getting to the 5-6th best end or rusher on the board which at 16 you ideally should be getting 1 or 2 at that position so I start to see it as forcing need. I look at Tackle which the 1st or second tackle should be on the bored. Probably the best corner, something like that. Address your secondary need.

I like Greedy Williams, move Jackson to nickel and all of a sudden our secondary is pretty damn solid.

Double dip at DE in rounds 2 and 3.

That’s the thing... from what I have heard this isn’t the best edge class but the best Dline class.. if you want a special player it’s gonna have to be round one because it gets murky to say the least after that. I know no one wants to believe this but, your best option is to trade up.

if you don’t wanna be stuck with a consolation prize. Ferrell is the only one guaranteed to be there. And I see absolutely nothing special about him. In the a class being hailed as one of the best ever, missing on said talents because you are afraid to move a 3 when you have two is crazy. If not now then when is a scenario to trade up?

Burns, Wilkins, Sweat, White, Williams, Bush (no one else really has a chance in hell of making to 16th). Any of those guys in the first is a better improvement to our team than an OT or OG. Even with our craptastic offense with a hamstrung Cam, we still managed to grade in the top half of teams last year, while our defense was definitely in the bottom half. That alone should be telling everyone with half a brain what our first pick should be - Defense, then more defense, then maybe some more defense. Pick a Safety or LB in the 2nd, and round out with OL and whatever we missed in rounds 1 and 2 for the last pick of the day.
