EDGE is the pick

I haven't gotten the obsession with a tackle at 16.  We did a great job shoring up the OL in FA, so now we should focus on the edge rush early in the draft.  Of course, BPA with needs still in mind, but an edge rusher to develop is still what we need at 16.

Because our OL has either been bad or average for the last decade (I would consider the 2015 unit only "good"). I would love to have an OL that can get some movement in the run game and prevent Cam from being constantly harassed. I hope they draft the BPA from the DE and OL 1st round prospects.

Additionally, Daryl Williams is coming of a knee tear and is only on a 1 yr contract. We don't know if Moton can even play LT. We have a jag at LG, etc. I would love to see Jonah Williams be the pick because he could play LT or LG. If the Panthers believe there is better EDGE player available at 16, then I would be thrilled with that pick as well.

The only top edge guys remaining at #16 --unless someone unexpectedly falls will be Ferrell and Burns.  Everyone else should be gone.

I think this is the likely scenario. If there is value at Edge then you go that route but if it’s not there you don’t reach.  I’d like to have edge addressed but if we got value at another position I would be fine.  I think it’s a deep draft and you can find quality in the first three or four rounds.  CJ was a third round guy and turned out to be a darn good ball player.

My sky won’t fall If we come away with another position at 16.

Lol, the revisionist history is funny sometimes. 2015’s OL was ranked top 5 and even top 2 in 2015. The 22-2 run we had was absolutely keyed by an OL playing great. 2016 was a crap fest due to Gano and the OL having a ridiculous amount of injuries on the OL.

I said the 2015 OL was good. Did you want me to say they were outstanding? Sorry. Our OT play in 2016 was underwhelming. I attended every game via my PSL seats, so I would say I was able to evaluate them pretty well.

I feel its BPA, but we have done a lot of offensive line additions for depth.

For me that feels like the 5-6 players we have as BPA for 16 are Oliver, Sweat, Gary, Burns, Jonah Williams and Andre Dillard and Clelin Ferrell(Im not trying to put them in any definite order, but thats where I feel they are BPA for 16 based on DLine and OT).  I would put Jawaan Taylor there too but most mocks have him top 10 and the first OT off the board.  Cody Ford is a wild card too.

So I feel they have 3-5 DT/DE/OLB they will try to draft out of that bunch for 16 and only go to OT if they all are off the board. On a toss up between Burns/Jonah/Andre/Ferrell, I would have no clue which one Hurney selects out of those 4.

If Sweat/Clelin are not available who else is worth a shot at 16? We could very well go BPA. We wont reach for a need especially if that player is not a 1st round talent. We could find a DE in the 2nd round.

Lots of this can change, depends on who's there for us. I'm pretty sure Dillard and Jonah Williams are first round talents. They'd fill our "needs.'' I hope we draft one of those guys. But, my hopes are slim. Oshane ximines is a nice talent. Am hoping we can get him with our 2nd or one of our thirds. But am certain we go LT or edge with our first round pick.

You have a traditional 4-3 end in Ferrell, a 3-4 OLB in Burns, a versatile O-linman in Williams and a true LT in Dillard.  So I guess the question is will Hurney value scheme/flexibility over solid one position guys that  potentially can be cornerstone players?  That's what Hurney has to contend with.  To me, we struggle developing gimmick players...always have.  That's the reason I'm not sold on Burns despite the crazy athleticism.  He's not a your traditional 4-3 end.  Take Marquis Haynes for example.  I hated that pick for the Panthers. Going back to Everette Brown, undersized ends always flop on this team.  I don't think that changes just because we throw some 3-4 looks in there.  Jonah has the flexibility to play guard and tackle, but I don't envision him being the franchise LT.  I think, in time, Dillard can be.  It won't happen this year, but it doesn't have to unless injuries become an issue.

I'm thinking it will come down to Ferrell and Dillard. Dillard is still my choice in that scenario.

Everyone knows by now Im biased towards OT in Jawaan Taylor and Jonah Williams.  With that being said, as I also stated, all the offensive line additions this week and depth suggests there are more Defensive line BPA Hurney is looking at 16.  Now, those can all be camp fodder and be a smoke screen and we will see.

For now we have scrubs at DE and or OLB if we wanted to do that.  Burns yes has Everette Brown part 2 written all over him except hes a lot faster if memory serves(I think Brown was much slower right?)  We do have Rivera now instead of Fox and company-- Rivera is light years ahead of John Fox on 3-4 and hybrid formations-- remember Fox being determined to have a 4-3, with the same rigid coverage that got us killed against Arizona?  Fox was also heavily invested in scheme over players and rushing 4 with 7 in coverage---- Rivera has shown a lot more fluidity and aggression.

Therefore I have infinitely higher hopes for Burns if thats the pick. Sweat has about a 5% chance of making it to 16 but he would be the pick out of the 2 of them--- not sure where they grade Gary between the 3 but I would guess Gary, Sweat, Burns.

Ferrell is much better than people dump on him.  Ive watched enough of his highlights to believe he can also play OLB when needed especially on the strong side.

Honestly I believe I will stick to Gary, Oliver, Sweat, Jawaan Taylor in a group followed by Jonah Williams, Burns, Ferrell and Andre in the 2nd BPA grouping(excluding the outside possibility that we are all nuts and Hurney takes Greedy or someone else).

A stud DL will be available at 16, it’s just whether we decide to take them. I’d have 0 issue taking Wilkins to be a 4-3 DT or 3-4 DE.

Yeh if all of those are gone, Wilkins is a great pick,...although I would really be shocked to see us trade back and do that if Jonah Williams falls to us.
