If we draft Khalen Saunders I would be ecstatic.

Jeez lack of effort due to conditioning?  Thats lack of discipline and motivation.

Thats a no go.

I haven’t watched a ton of his tape but he didn’t show that at all at the senior bowl. He was one of the standouts. He’s a freaking explosive bowling ball.  He’s a 3-4th round guy   But with some upside.

Do you realize that we may have 0 of the DTs from 2018 on our roster in 2020? Do you really want to pay another $31m for Poe and Short in 2020 instead of saving $24m?

We need DTs like it or not. We drafted two in 2013 and 1 in 2016 and 1 in the 7th last year (who we lost off the PS). It’s not like we’ve invested much at all in the position lately besides money.

If we are switching to 3-4, the DE position becomes a DT.  We need to focus on DE in this draft.  Short is probably going to be a much more team friendly deal next time he signs.  Believe it or not, you have to retain your good players.  Constantly cycling them out with draft picks is not how you become a consistent winner.

It’s the Patriot way unless that player is playing up to their contract. Short was playing up to his new contract in 2016 and 2017. He was not in 2018 and while I hope for a resurgence this year, he’s not worth $18m in 2020. Poe hasn’t played up to his contract either and isn’t worth $13m in 2020. It’s that simple. Retaining players on bad contracts that aren’t your key guys (like Luke and Cam and say Moton, DJ, etc.) when you can free up $24m in cap space is how you become a consistent loser. Short and Poe in 2020 sure as heck don’t fall in the retain bucket.

Pretty sure KK short is considered one of those key guys.  That's why you restructure those players and resign guys like Kyle Love.  I would also argue that part of the issue with the performance of the DTs last year was having father time himself as our top pass rusher.  QBs rolled away from our up-the-gut pressure all season last year.

Also - the Patriots usually fill those holes with free agents.  They don't have many draft picks that become all-world players.

We have a bunch of cap geniuses in this forum that think the Panthers aren't in good shape unless they're $40 million under the cap.

Not necessarily.  Could be a guy needing better coaching and direction.  Could also be a guy (writer) trying to fill space.  Western Illinois is not a powerhouse.

I wouldn't discount him due to one sentence from one guys opinion.   I say let the coaches and scouts perform due diligence. Could end up being some value to have.

Could also end up with an Amini Silitolu
