Dillard probably will have to redshirt, but that isn't necessarily a bad thing.  Let him learn as the Daryl Williams situation plays out.  Williams may bounce back, as I'm sure he is anticipating, but maybe not.  If Williams winds up being damaged goods, where does that leave us?  A second or third round OT isn't going to be starter ready.  We don't have the cap room to sign more than a band aid veteran and the chances of discovering Daryl isn't fully ready or re-injures himself probably won't be until camp, possibly later. Just take Greg Olsen for instance.  I wasn't on this forum last year, but I fumed when we didn't take a TE in the second round last draft (it was a loaded TE class) for the vary reason that the foot may not be fully healed.  As it turned out, it wasn't.  I know we took Thomas in the fourth round, but it was widely known he was a huge project and would not be ready as a starter if needed.

It's going to come down to Dillard and Ferrell at #16 IMHO and in that scenario, I like the upside of Dillard over a limited ceiling of Ferrell even if it takes a year of development.

People need to realize that teams don't positions in the first round they pick players.

We not going to pick the next available best edge rusher.  Maybe edge rusther is our biggest need and if all things are equal we go that way but aren't going to just the "next" guy.

By now I would think they have a pretty good idea of they want and who will likely be there at 16.  At this point the list should be getting pretty small.

Maybe it is something like:

Sweat

Burns

Dillard

Murphy

Everything I read about this guy is that he is a project, but it's looking more and more to me that he might be the pick at 16

Pretty sure if this happened Hurney would receive multiple death threats. No way in hell does he take him at 16 if he wants to keep his job

How is he a 1st rd project? Makes no sense...haven't read anyone calling him a project

Andre Dillard has some attractive qualities as a Tackle prospect, but his transition to the pros will be best if he's not pressured into early play.

Dillard should be regarded as a developmental starter prospect who, if everything clicks, could be an effective ZBS left tackle.

but coaching and development will still be essential to unlocking all of his potential.

Ideally Dillard gets a year to sit and develop in a zone scheme before taking over as a team's starting left tackle

If he's a top 20 pick as expected, he'll be one of the biggest "boom-or-bust" prospects in the draft.

I like his ceiling, particularly in pass protection, but he’s more of a developmental prospect than his physical upside and resume suggest.

this is just three different writers on one draft website

I mean hurney pretty much confirmed this recently with one of the beat writers (think it was Jourdan) last year we had 5-6 guys we were targeting for our spot and this year will be the same

Unless a top tier talent falls they don't expect to like Ed Oliver for example

after looking through the site not very impressive on their picks...you may need to expand your research

you asked this question and I responded. There's a reason this guy isn't a top five pick. He had a bad senior bowl week as well.

To clarify I won't be mad if Dillard is the pick. I think LT is currently the biggest need on the roster, but to act like there isn't some concerns with any prospect esp Dillard is silly
