Cam will be turning 30 this year.

I think the team has done a nice job surrounding him with electric playmakers so he has to rely on his legs less and can find other guys to make big plays.  A healthy McCaffrey is going to do wonders for extending Cam's career since he is able to bail him out of getting rocked often.   I'd say he'll be solid at least until age 35.  Once his running ability is gone, I'm not sure how much faith I have in him being much better than an average QB.

Manning is a completely different type of QB. Cam thrives when he's running. PM would rather thrown the ball out of bounds than take a hit. I doubt Cam has the longevity considering how many big hits he takes and has taken.  if Cam learns to give up on a play and throw the ball away rather than run over someone he could extend it some.

I don't think we'll be at the point for a few more years Cam's health being the main factor, and it finally seems as if they ''get it'' now as the OL is finally getting some attention.

I hope so, Tepper probably gave Hurney a long talk about Oline after three of our QBs all sustained injuries behind our oline this year. I remember Tepper emphasizing protecting Cam better in that interview few months ago, I'd bet he was the driving force for Hurney signing Paradis and resigning D.Williams.

Wouldn't be mad if we got someone in the draft who can play tackle and guard . Because it would be foolish to bank on the oline staying healthy after the injuries weve seen in the past few seasons.

Last time our Oline was totally healthy  Cam won MVP and we went to the Super Bowl.

We better be prepared to pay him big especially if he has a bounce back year. I can totally see Cam leaving Carolina if another team offers him some crazy contract. Teams will always need a star QB, and those teams usually have massive cap space.

On the other hand, if his shoulder shows signs early of not holding up they may decide to let him test free agency and see if he comes back at a bargain.

Realistically, how much time does he have left with the Panthers? Assuming he signs with Carolina for the rest of his career?

At what point does the organization start to look for his replacement?

I think the days of "Grooming" a QB are long gone. You see more of the trial by fire now and it's really hit or miss but lately it's been working for several teams.

What say you?

I am assuming you're saying he returns to his normal self and has a decent year this year. If this is the case, I'd say Cam has another few years as a starting caliber QB, 4-5 maximum.

So I wouldn't expect the Panthers to really need to look for his replacement for 2-3 years.

That said, if he craps the bed this season, or his shoulder starts to crap out on him towards the end of the season, considering the best QB class in a while for 2020, Panthers should move on.

Manning read defenses before the snap and got the ball out instantly, all he did was pass the ball, even for regular QBs he couldn't scramble and had zero mobility...he is arguably the GOAT QB...and while he plays QB that's all he has in common with Cam. It's weird you think this was relevant.

Panthers are in a tough spot. Cams due for an extension soon, coming off another surgery on his arm. If he injures that arm again this season does Hurney and Ron trust Allen or Heinicke to take over?

2020 draft is supposed to be loaded with good qb talent, look for them to pick one up.

Are we talking about running backs here bud?

Not trying to start trouble here, and I think Cam is a very good QB. Having said that, if you simply look at carries, Cam is in the top 20 for rushing the ball since he came into the league. It's bottom of the top 20-#18, still top 20.

I do NOT think of Cam as a RB, but, counting playoffs, he's rushed almost a 1000 times in his career. That has to factor into your thought processes for extending him.

RBs are one trick ponies. Cam is a dual threat QB who is predominately a passer who runs occasssionally. Once wear and tear starts to take a bigger effect on his ability to run effectively, I think we'll see more reliance on the passing. the run threat will still be there, but it will be more passing involved. he's going to get a lot more life than any RB.
