I agree Ferrell probably could be a day one starter.  But with Addison and Irvin here I am looking at over ceiling in the 1st rd.  Ferrell certainly has a higher floor but I want Burns in the first.  Just the way I wanted DJ over Ridley last year because I think DJ has a much higher ceiling.

Jmo I don't think Irvin is a starting DE.. He is either a 4/3 strong side LB or a 3/4 OLB.. In the 4/3 we still need a starting caliber DE to play with Addison.. Right now in base defense Cox or Obada are the starters.. Scary....  It also should be mentioned that Addison and Irvin are 30+ year old on 1 year deals.. So you still need a young Starting quality DE on the roster to be ready to step in next year.. Probably 2..

Via NFLDraftscout's 2019 guide.

- You can see that the OT class is deep this year. We could get a possible starter in the 2nd round

- Drafting a WR with one of 3rd rounders is a real possibility. There is agood chance guys like Arcega-Whiteside, Terry McLaurin, Parris Campbell, or Mecole Hardman (PR/KR) will be available at #100.

I've been saying this for weeks. If the top 3 or 4 DE's are off the board, we go T. Guaranteed 1st game starter. Some D-lineman need a year or 2 to come into their own. We can get a DE in the 2nd that can "contribute and rotate" in their 1st season an develop into a FT DE.

I think that most people can get on board with you in theory anyway. I like both Little and Howard individually.  But, I'm calling it a fail if we don't get a DE in the first 3 rounds, too much talent in this draft AND we need a pass rush. Any RT we draft will be a back up. Moton deserves to start on one side or the other this season. If we go with Little, keep him on the right. If we go DE in the first and draft a RT in the second, move Moton to the left.

It's very possible we don't take an OT until the third round. A guy to learn behind moton and Williams. Why draft in the first round if he's not going to play? Unless we move someone, which is possible.

I say if that's the strategy take Cody Ford, put him at lg and then shift him over after Darryl leaves. Either at right or left.

I can see the Ford strategy but there are a bunch of good guards that will be available in the 2nd/3rd. I’d rather try a Pipkins or Howard or Scharping, etc. a little later and have them as depth and takeover for Williams.

I think one scenario people forget about is that we can have tons of cap in 2020 if we pickup some DT depth (or Wilkins). Short and Poe can be cut and save $24m in 2020. That’s a lot to add to what we currently have. What if Williams plays well and comes back from injury well? 2020 cap space >>>>> current space so re-signing Williams isn’t hard at all.

Great point, I still don't think Williams is that great, gets lots of te help. However, your strategy could be awesome for adding resources later on. Can't argue with the logic.

Here's what I know...

1. We are desperately thin at DL and edge rusher. Beyond this season, we don't have a single proven NFL edge rushers on the roster and as of right now both of our penciled in starting edge rushers are 30+. Both of our starting DTs are in the same boat, but are signed beyond this season albeit at cap values that they very well may not be worth. We very well could move on from one or both after this season. It's quite possible that this time next year neither of our current top two edge rushers and DTs are on the roster. Where would that leave us?

2. This is being called by many the best DL/edge rusher draft ever.

3. We have four picks in the first three rounds.

Honestly, I'll be disappointed if two of those four picks are DL/edge rushers.

It's like the stars aligned to help you out and you flip a bird at the sky..  It's just stupid not to take advantage of what the situation is giving you especially when you know the need is critical..
