Walking Dead (new thread since old one is archived)

I'll make a confession.  I quit.  My wife still watched.  She told me it was getting good again so I binged it and caught up.  I frankly was already curious how Opie from SOA was going to be.

my take.

I do think it is improving from where it got when I quit.  I think the influx of new blood is good.  I think the show slowly purging the old folks is good.

So on to the new big bad.  The repetitive arc of the new bad guy still bothers me.   Almost like a video game where there is just a new boss at the end of every couple seasons.  I was disappointed w/ Negan and the Saviors.   I think the comic book hype is bad for the TV show.   They were just your standard new bad folks IMO.  I do like where Negan is now more.  I do kinda feel the same for the Whisperers.  Just the new bad folks overall.  Alpha doesn't do that much for me.  Beta is okay.

I can't remember names but I like the group overall Judith brought in.  I think they are good for the show.

Frankly I feel the writers need to just take the King, Michonne, Eugene, etc out all out. Let it become something new.  Kinda feels that could be what they are attempting.     Heck, build up that little Connie thing they are doing and let Daryl do some noble thing and be gone too.

I still watch it a day later.

The Whisperers arc and Gimple being gone have done a lot of positive things for the show, however...

I disagree with this whole Rick being gone thing. It is just dumb, and they are just trying to milk their cash cow. Rumor has it that in this last episode, at the end, the radio Eugene was working on is going off, and it is Rick talking, but nobody is there to hear it. That might be a decent twist if that happens (and it'll give them ability to write Michonne off ("oh, she went to go find Rick")) It probably won't be, and it'll be someone from the capital like in the comics.

The show has failed so much when it tries to deviate from the source, as it always has.

Ezekiel should have been a pike victim. Rosita should have been a pike victim. There is no other purpose for these characters now, and they only reason they are holding onto them is because the bigger named people are jumping ship.

I've been catching up with FTWD since season 4 has hit Hulu. It, to me, is a much better show at times because it doesn't have a source material in another medium.

At least TWD has taken a little more of a darker tone with this season. Michonne offing the evil kids was pretty dark. Alpha's stuff is darker than in the comics, almost to a point where it is gratuitous, though.

It was dumb to have Henry turn into Carl 2.0 and then kill him off so quickly too.

I just really don't think anyone knows wtf they are doing sometimes, when it comes to these shows.

As a huge fan of the comic, I stopped watching two years ago. I understand you have to change things, but all the changes they made were doo doo. Getting rid of Rick was an awful idea as well. Robert Kirkman has always said, the story is about Rick Grimes, no Rick is now TWD. I will admit, this new season seems to nail the Whisperer arc. So I may get back into it. The look of Beta is identical to the book, just a beast. Over the years, I really hated how one episode would just be about one character.

The show is at its best when they would bounce back and forth between camps and conflicts. My friends have told me that the solo character episodes have slowed down. Unfortunately, it’s going to have to end soon. Same for the book. It can not be sustainable for much longer bc only so many stories and villains can be repeated.

Apparently they bounce back and forth between seasons, too. How can one group have a horrible blizzard and one have warm sunshine? If they traveled, they must have flown.

I assumed the Whisperers migrated south during the winter.  So a lot of time has passed between the spike scene and the last episode.  That is why the Kingdom went from the big fair to suddenly a collapse that they needed to abandon and join either Hilltop or Alexandria.

That finale was a huge letdown. I was literally falling asleep. The only thing that could have saved it a bit would have been if it was Rick on the radio. SPOILER ALERT: It wasn't.

One big YAWN, and definitely not a way you want to end a decent season.

They should just kill every major character holdover off, and just continue the series with Negan becoming Judith's adoptive dad, and follow them two post-Alexandria/Hilltop/Kingdom. Like 20 years later, or something.

Nobody cares about any of the other characters they've tried to force us to like.

Ezekiel: sucks
Carol: sucks
Daryl: sucks
Aaron: no major scenes, skywalker'd
Rosita/Eugene/Gabriel: all suck, aside from Eugene's dialogue
Michonne: nobody cares
Magna and crew: nobody cares, all suck

Everyone else thus far are "B" roles. Nobody cares. Get vengeance on the Whisperers and then, for the love of decent TV, MOVE ON FROM ALMOST THE ENTIRE CAST.

biggest problem is...the show is about a zombie apocalypse but has already reached the stage where zombie aren't really a threat.   So what do you do? You either conclude the show or turn it into a soap opera.   The premise of the show means it can't go but so long.  So the cast probably is irrelevant at this point.

I had not watched in several years but after several people telling me to I finally watched this season (they told me to go back and find the time jump but screw that)

I binged the first seven last week, then watched the finale.  I enjoyed it.  Now it is possible that had I had to wait a week between episodes I would have not enjoyed it as much but I thought it was good.

I barely knew most of the people they killed but I thought the scene was done really well, much better than what the show was putting together when I quit.

I really liked Samantha Morton and the girl playing Lydia.  The latter is an anomaly, I feel like this show has typically blown at casting their young characters.

Yeah, the young actors have been really weak.  Lydia actually can act.  I like Judith too.

Carl, Henry and Enid all stunk
