It's not one or the other, it's the whole picture. Too many draft nerds get completely hung up on workout numbers and forget about everything else. Projecting prospects to the next level is a very inexact at best "science". Ideally, you want a guy with good production, good measurables, and good workouts but those types of pass rushers rarely exist outside of the top 10. We'll see what we have tonwork with at #16.

Omg .. This has been said to him 3 pages ago.. Now he gets it???

There is no getting it. I get his premise for evaluation. That said, I still don’t like or want Ferrell he’s not an elite prospect. He said Ideally you would want a guy to have production messurables and so on. Ferrell does not have the measurables. I like many others think he’s a system guy.

Repost just so u can reread it. A quality number 2 pass rusher? A guy who wins with effort? That’s what I mean by having elite traits. If his best trait and where he wins is trying hard then no. Why the the flip would I want that at 16.

So you truly still don't get it.. Did you not understand stand the part when Lim said  "Most elite prospects with production,  no red flags, and a great comb performance.. Don't make it out of the top 10"

We have the 16th pick.. That's essentially the middle of the round. ..

Lastly alot of ppl want the work hard guy who gives the same great effort on every snap.. It is completely dumb not to want that.. Especially when the guy is a above avg. Athlete for the position.. Which Ferrell is plain and simple.. The fact you keep posting the same write up saying the same thing "not a elite athlete " isn't a deterrent from him being a great player.. The scale of athleticism doesn't go  elite athlete to paraplegic.   There are more than 2 levels of athleticism genius... You don't have to be a elite athlete to be a great player.   Please try to understand that..

I get all of that. Of course all truly great elite athletes no red flags and so on go top 10. What your not getting is this is possibly an all time great defensive line draft. So I would expect some of that to trickle down to 14-16. If 2-3 QBs go in the top 10 picks somebody has to fall.

Yes effort is a fine trait but not one to draft a guy on because that’s his main strength. I could try really hard to be a brain surgeon doesn’t but mean I have the tools to do it. Effort is almost expected. What else do you bring to the table what’s your calling card? Are you a speed rusher? A bull rusher? Where do you win? Ferrell isn’t elite an any of those areas.

Bosa elite first step..speed to power. Gary elite athlete can win speed or power, Sweat fastest defensive lineman ever at the combine. Ed Oliver elite quickness and speed he was shinning in linebacker drills. Now what is Ferrell’s calling card.. he’s a high effort guy? Not to exciting. If he’s all that’s there and he will be there.. I want to move up or down.

Same write up huh... everywhere you look people are saying the same thing. Guy isn’t very athletic. And this is maybe my own personal philosophy about drafting. You don’t want marginal athletes in the first round.

It’s not just 2-3 Qbs going before us and we have a quality Elite guy to pick from. Here is what it would actually have to look like.

15

D.K. Metcalf

, WR

14

Greedy Williams

, CB

13

Drew Lock

, QB

12

Noah Fant

, TE

11

T.J. Hockenson

, TE

10

Dwayne Haskins

, QB

9

Ed Oliver

, IDL

8

Montez Sweat

, EDGE

7

Rashan Gary

, EDGE

6

Jawaan Taylor

, OT

5

Devin White

, LB

4

Josh Allen

, EDGE

3

Quinnen Williams

, IDL

2

Nick Bosa

, EDGE

1

Kyler Murray

, QB

In this mock draft your 2-3 QBs went before us.  And Brian Burns was still on the board.  But this is the best case scenario. We have to hope for 2 TE’s, Greedy, and Metcalf go before us.  While I hope for that I just don’t see that happening.

I understand your desire to get an elite guy at 16.  But after doing literally hundreds of mock drafts it is not always the case. Do I think that Oliver, Gary, Sweat, and Burns are elite.  Yes.  But we are picking at 16 and have to be realistic of who will be there.  Do I want one of those first tier guys.  Yes.  But I am also understanding that if all of them are gone I would be happy to take one of my Second tier guys- Ferrell, Wilkins, Ford, or Jonah.  It’s just where we are in the pecking order in this draft.

I do hope that there is a QB frenzy.  I’m just not counting on it.

Maybe someone should have talked to RR about week 17 if we definitely needed an elite player.

I agree with your perception. And in most cases anyway you look at it this is the outcome. But at this point I can almost assure you Ferrell will be there yes. If your the gm and we’re basically in win now mode with Cam agining and body breaking down. Is Ferrell good enough to get you the pressure you need day 1?

I can’t come out of this draft with a tier 2 pass rusher and expect that to get me past the saints. I believe if that’s the plan then trade down to get more darts to throw at the board or I’m willing to move atleast one of my 3s to hop up a few spots to secure burns,Garys,or Oliver. This being hailed as a alltime  great edge group and we sit back and watch time pass us bye? I say no.

I’d be fine with trading down if those first tier guys are gone.  Trading up not so much. I can’t name one guy that has worked out for us trading up.
