What are you smoking?  No?!?!

This is the Carolina Panthers Ring of Honor, not the HoF.  Seriously, who has been a better Panther than Davis?  Man of the Year.  Pro Bowl.  All Pro.  Second in tackles for years only because he has been playing next to arguably the greatest MLB to ever play the game.  Three ACL's successfully in his past.

You cannot hope to find a better man and example of what we want a Carolina Panther to be.

I’m interested in the Ring of Dishonor. Who goes there?

JR, Carruth, 89 (he can go in both), the two cheerleaders who made it in a Tampa bathroom, Seifert, Matt Kalil, Remmers, KB, who else?

Igo?

Dwayne Jarrett is a first ballot.

I would leave Remmers out. He was a tackle signed off the scrap heap that never had high expectation and was technically decent at his job. He never should have been asked to block Von Miller one on one. Sadly, we have had far worse tackles (Bell, Chandler, Foucault (sp?).

Igo?

Ring of Dishonor kick off party will be a “wine and cheese” party

Smitty was the greatest player the Panthers have ever had, without a doubt.

If that is all "Honor" means to you, then go ahead and put Smitty at the front of the line.

But comparing Smitty's legacy to that of Sam Mills' demonstrates a hugh disparity in what it takes to be a member of an exclusive club (and not in a good way).

Keep in mind Mills got a statue out front. Something Smitty isn't likely to get. The ring of honor seems more about the man as a player. A statue is more about the man as a leader and example to all. And no the statue of Richardson was put up by him and isn't the same at all.

honest question...

would sam mills have this high status if he hadnt died of cancer?

i know he was a great player (never saw him play), but is it possible part of his legacy is held on a pedistal because of his tragic death and his inspiring attitude about it?

Sam Mills was a better man in spite of his cancer. However, his legacy, his cancer, and his death are inseparable. How he dealt with his impending death is exactly how he dealt with every other stumbling block in his life, and there were a lot of them. Huddlers need to acquaint themselves with Sam Mills, how he handled life and death. Just go to youtube and search Sam Mills.  Then search 1996 Carolina Panthers. The entire Dallas playoff game is there plus more.

There is no one who better exemplified his "Keep Pounding" mantra his entire life than Sam Mills.

For the record, Sam Mills was not inducted into the Ring of Honor because of his coaching, the "Keep Pounding" speech or his cancer and death.  He was inducted solely on his accomplishments during his time as a player.  This is because he was inducted on Sept 27, 1998, during his first year on the coaching staff.

Also, back in the mid 2000's the team added a rule that any new inductees must be retired for at least 5 years.  So Steve Smith would not be eligible until January 2, 2022 at the earliest.  However, Jordan Gross is now officially eligible.
