Would You Rather...?

You're confusing things, I'm not saying they are diamonds in the rough, we have quality starters at pass rush with Irvin, and Addison. In 2014 WE HAD NOTHING at receiver. There is a difference there so don't pervert the point.

To the same degree I've also listed GVR / Larsen in the case for the OL.

The premise is would you rather...

Sure up the OL

or

Sure up the DL

I'm not here to tout my belief in players that can be developed.

When you look at the DL depth in general it is in a better place the the OL's (Addison / KK / Irvin) all three legit NFL caliber pass rushers. We have seen Obada, Cox Jr, and Haynes. All of which have been on the team 2-3 seasons respectively. So as it stands there are less of a concern with depth on the DL regarding the pass rush

On the offensive line however there still is, and to me it comes back to what is more important,

Protect, your QB

Sack the other QB

Like I've said in here times over, I prefer DL to OL in most cases early, however at #16 the value to me this year may make more sense to draft an offensive lineman. I don't see an edge player at #16 coming in with immediate impact. I think the case is better suited for OL AT THAT DRAFT POSITION.

If we were in the top 10, without question give me the best edge player, but at #16 I think we may miss out on some of the better edge talent, and thus end up reaching  a bit if we go that route.

I have to defer to people that are more accredited than myself so I like to look at the ''big boards'' available...(below is an example)

https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/news/2019-nfl-draft-big-board-top-100-prospect-rankings-see-shifts-following-pro-days/

A good portion of the defensive line talent is centered around interior DL specifically DT, most of the ''edge'' talent is grading out outside the top 10 talent, but there are 2 offensive lineman in that top 10 group.

So all I'm saying is if one falls to us I think that OL is a smarter play this season. I think we're better equipped with the current pass rushing starters (Addison, Irvin, Short) and depth that we have vs the current OL and depth.

So while I understand the argument for DL in the first, and OL in the 2nd or later. I am just on the other end this year, based on some of the big boards I've seen.

I'd like the chance at an impact offensive lineman especially one that can play T, and G as a rookie if needed, or if we see Daryl, or Moton move inside. I just believe in doing all you can to protect your QB, and considering quality Tackle talent is hard to come by on the market this to me makes sense IF and ONLY IF the position presents itself with one of the top OL falling to #16.

Despite my above post, I've become a bit leery of supposedly elite NFL OT prospects. The bust rate of those type of guys seems like it's been sky high in recent years.

Yeah, I'm definitely not as high on the idea of drafting OL in the first round as I used to be, especially tackles.

College systems being what they are, we're just not getting as many elite prospects at those positions as we used to.

As Free Agency is likely at an end for us, the focus is likely on the draft at this point for many fans, and perhaps even the team. True we could make cap space for signings with a (Torrey Smith) cut, but of the available FA's who do you really want at the same cost, or split across a couple of signings. With that being the case my personal focus in on the first pick....

So my question is would you rather...

  • Take the best pass rush prospect & pair them with our current legitimate pass rushers (Addison / Irvin / Short / Rookie)
  • Take the best available offensive lineman available and shore up ALL 5 of the positions and keep Cam protected at all costs (Moton / Rookie / Paradis / Turner / Williams)

When you look at edge rushers all we have under contract after this season is Haynes who is an under-sized DE, and as it stands sub package rusher, or future OLB in the 3-4 sets

As far as the offensive line goes, Moton, Larsen, Paradis, Turner are all at least under contract through next season if memory serves.

I think we should draft WR in the first round, LB in the second round.

I think we have to go pass rusher as its the biggest hole.. but we've seen our drafting before and would have thought Haynes would be a quick sack machine right now but the past few pass rushers .. Hall.. Haynes.. haven't been able to do anything vs a NFL tackle.

I think we have a solid O line and would love to get Jonah Williams but I just think our best player available at our pick will be a pass rusher. Damn wouldn't it be nice to be like Oakland or some other teams who have multiple top round picks? Solid draft. Will be some huge misses but overall solid guys at important positions this draft.
