This the best DL class ever

It doesn't matter what a guy was ranked as a HS recruit or NFL prospect. Courtney Brown was the #1 overall pick as a DE coming out of Penn State. He was seen as a can't miss slam dunk prospect. Bust.

Jared Allen was a 4th round pick and was a much better player than Clowney. Our own CJ was a 3rd rounder and was probably better as well. Dwight Freenwy was the #11 overall pick, roughly where Sweat is expected to go and he was a much better player than Clowney. Once you hit that field, all that hype doesn't mean squat. The fact that people still reference Clowney's hype coming out of HS and college to justify their opinion of him is just indicative of how disappointing his NFL career has been. He's a good player, don't get me wrong. He's not a bust. But he's nowhere close to the generational type of taoent he was hyped to be. He's just a good edge rusher. That's it, that's all. Nothing special.

I dont give a crap about the athlete. Im not arguin about whos the better tested athlete.

I guezz Sweat should be consider a top 2 pick then. 2014 draft is top to bottom better than this 2019 draft class. Clowney was the consensus #1 player. And in the NFL, Clowney will still be the more disruptive player out of Sweat and himself. Opposing teams game plan for Clowney. Sweat got a long way to go. Drop the stupid argument. If Clowney was in this draft, he’d still be the #1 pick over everyone else.

What are you talking about...Clowney doesn't have one double digit sack(JJ Watt on the other side as well) season. Sweat could fart for one season and be on par with Clowney in the NFL. the 2014 class, was better overall I might agree with that, but on the defensive side of the ball It's not close. Greg Robinson went number 2 that class so why couldn't anyone else. Bortles went 3 and sammy watkins after that. Your not making a very good case for why Sweat who broke the defensive line record with a 4.41 40 couldn't go as high as 2 in that class.

This statement may not be accurate because these 3 may all be busts in the NFL. No player being drafted is a guaranteed elite player.

At top 5 or 10 you are not even guaranteed a starter unfortunately. Especially at DE.

According to rankings, he’d be tied for 7th ranking for edge players (around 30th overall, but QBs). There’s also way more DTs available as well. I honestly think he’d be a 2nd rounder, albeit early bars on the QB reaches, or a late 1st.  Either way, seeing as how you just couldn’t get by the Rams, you paid too much for a DE last year, but Brees is almost gone so going all out before you suck with Teddy does make sense.

Where the thinking is wrong around here is that the Saints are only making moves for now. They have one of the strongest rosters in football, period. Davenport wasn’t a move only for last year. Acting as if he was is foolish.

Yeah, the Saints are going to be in just splendid shape when Brees retires.

Eh. He’s a HOFer. But the Saints have one of the top olines in football, one of the best RBs, one of the best WRs, and a defense, who despite being one of the youngest in football has been in the top half of the league the last 2 years.

This isn’t 2011. Brees isn’t carrying this team to wins. In fact, after Thanksgiving, MT, Kamara, and the defense carried the team to the NFCC game.

Look at virtually every team after a HOF QB retires. They almost always flounder for awhile. Unless y'all can find your Steve Young or Aaron Rodgers y'all will do the same. The fact that the Saints continue to kick the can down the road on Brees' contract and will likely still have tens of millions of dollars to eat on his contract after he retires tell you all you need to know that they're all in on his final years. They should be. It's the smart move. But you've achieved comical levels of denial if you think you aren't in for a serious relationship period when he hangs up those cleats.

It’ll be next year, imo. So I guess we’ll see.

That made so much sense it went over the their Helmets,.. Clowney is definitely not Jared Allen or Freeney and definitely not Julius Peppers— he’s just ok.

And besides, we aren’t trading up to the 5-8 pick to take Sweat. I can’t find one mock out there having him go past 12 any more.

Burns actually doesn’t make it to us half the time either.

All I can say is there had better be a plan outside of wishing for those 2 to drop to us— that doesn’t involve trading next years picks or something
