With the moves we made and rumors going

I really yhink were going to see more base 3-4 this year.

Ferrell is Solid but just doesnt fit.  He isnt athletic enough to be a terror as a 3-4OLB and no where near the size for a 3-4DE.

Ferrell 3 cone and his quickness drills st the combine is showing for a 3-4 OLB who moves around, drops in coverage etc

IMO Dude has been a productive player since day 1 in college.. So you have 3 years of tape and production with him.. He is the most productive player on the list and he is a underclassman.. He wasn't just a top rated prospect this year he has been one for a few years.. That means something.  Based on "me" watching all these guys.. He is the most polished of the 4 as a pass rusher.. He not only beat ppl physically he seem like he watches film and find tendencies to help him.. He also has more pass rushing moves than the rest of them.. And while he isn't a freak talent he is steady and day 1 ready to contribute.. He was on one of the best Dline ever but still was the top dog.. So guys benefit out of playing with him not the other way around like Hall..

Watch Voch breakdown.  You will see his great get off (reading the snap) .  Strong against the run and him setting up OT with a variety of moves..

I can understand that and I have also referred to him as the most polished player at that position available. I do, however, think he has some limitations athletically. Not sure I forsee him being a consistent 10 sack guy but he could be a solid starter for the next 6-8 years. I definitely see the attraction in that.

I don't know why, but Gary just seems like a bust to me.  If Sweat goes to the right team, he's going to be a monster.  Wrong team scares me.  Ferrell will be consistently good, but never DPOY great - - Charles Johson type. Burns scares me a bit...but Bruce Irvin could be a helluva teacher for him. Also think he could be the guy with the 3-4 smoke.

I'm sorry I just don't think their making a full move to a 3/4..

I can see it as a hybrid scheme to throw at teams on passing downs but to go full they need more than 1 offseason and more than 1 year on contract to players who fit that role...

25. Gary

Question I've seen ppl talking about Devin White but doesn't he play Luke's position??

I've only seen him line up as a  MLB ..

If he's the pick they are going full 3/4 without question.. He really isn't a outside LB in the 4/3..

You could be right

but I think he has the speed and athleticism to play olb and cover Rbs and TEs even slot Wrs

Offenses are out playing defenses in the modern NFL.  speed ,athleticism ,and intelligence can counter that

Charles Johnson would be just fine with me. If I can draft a guy that will have a 5 year stretch between 8.5 and 12.5 sacks, that is a solid pick all day long.

I'll be damned....it sure is nice to read through a thread with great football discussion, that's also informative on here!  Beer for the OP.

Everything really is contingent upon exactly how much 3/4 we're planning on installing and actually running (very intrigued to see how it plays out), but with that being said:

1. Sweat

2. Ferrell

3. Gary

The whole Gary, Sweat, Burns, Ferrell thing kind of depends on how much 3-4 we plan on using and what type of 3-4 we are going to employ and how much we are going to use it.  If you are talking a Dom Caper/Dick LeBeau Steelers typically 3-4 Gary is a taylor made DE for it as 2 gap DE.  Brian Burns is also the OLB built perfectly for it in his ability to drop and cover in zone as well as some man.  Ferrell and Sweat really don't fit.

If it's a Wade Phillips 3-4 which is really more of an over 4-3 where the line is playing 1 gap and not 2 gap like most 3-4's, Sweat is the hands down choice.  Ferrell also works well in that.  Gary, I guess, becomes Aaron Donald in that kind of 3-4 and I guess he can do that but you are projecting a lot because he has never done it before.  Burns plays the Von Miller role and he could probably do that but not day 1.  He would need to get stronger at the POA to do that all the time.

So it depends on what type of defense we are running and how much we are running it.

Can someone explain to me why people like Rashan Gary? Yeah yeah ok he's an athlete he has insane combine numbers buttttt his college stats don't really add up, on top of that he wasn't in the greatest college division.

I'm a little uneducated swine tho so if someone could educate me on Rashan Gary...

Also, I feel like people are dissing Clelin for his bend and overall athleticism, but he has been very productive in college and does seem to look talented in film. I for one would love him on our team, the only issue is the 3-4 system that Ron talked about which wouldn't absolutely fit him but, either way...

I have been schitting on BP and sub. Ferrell would be great if we had an elite pass rusher at the opposite end and if we were not going away from 43 and more hybrid. Ferrell is not for us. If we draft him, I will be rooting for him like hell. We all should want all Panther players to succeed!
