Comparison of prospects that might be available to us..

Sweat - Big upside athlete.. has 2 years of solid production against good Sec competition.. But does have a lower floor because of technical knowledge of position.. He has live off of being the best athlete on the field..Did take him 2 years on the bench to be the player he is.. Might not be a day 1 starter.. But could be a 14 to 18 sack guy..

Ferrell- not as big of upside as Sweat.. But not as low of floor either.. 3 years of production against good competition in ACc .. He came in right away in college and produced.. More technically sound and has move pass rush moves right now.. Is a day one starter.. But might never be more than a CJ a 10 to 12 sack guy..

Gary - Very high upside was a top 5 player in the country coming out of highschool.. Versatility king can play in any scheme and in the 43 could play all over the dline.. More physically imposing then the other 2.. Could fit any scheme we play and is probably the best fit for this team.. Problem is never lived up to expectations in college. Played injured often at UM.. Flashed dominance but never consistently.. No where near the production the other 2 have.. Dilemma with him is he has the big p word "potential".. Potentially Gary could be JJ Watts a DPOY candidate every year or he can be a total bust..

Question is how would you rank these 3 in your opinion who do you want more from 1 to 3?

I go

1. Ferrell

2. Sweat

3. Gary

1. Burns- versatile.  True 3-4 OLB, solid athlete.  Great Bend and nose for the QB. And showed at the combine he can drop back in coverage as good as any LB in this class including Devin White etc.

2. Sweat- big athletic beast edge rusher, looooong arms.

3. Gary- only fits as a 3-4 DE in our new D.  Not going to be a OLB.  Freak, helps in the trenches

4. Ferrell- just not a good fit for our new D.  Great for a traditional 4-3, but in the 3-4 not so much

I prefer burns as well but if I'm sticking the OPs question.

Sweat

Ferrell

Gary

Gary is the type of player we always fall in love with but the tape doesn't lie. Despite his superior athleticism in an unathletic conference, he's been pedestrian.

My non-expert opinion

Gary

Sweat

Ferrell

I would also prefer Burns, but am not sure either he or Sweat will be available. I'm kinda lukewarm on Gary and Ferrell, but also remember some of the same concerns about Julius Peppers when he was drafted (takes plays off; not always motivated).

I'd be happy with any of the three, actually. If two of them are on the board when the Panthers draft, I'd even entertain a trade down a few spots to pick up more picks.

Should have added Burns because he is a option.. As a 3/4 OLB he is probably the best out of this group.. But he isn't a day 1 starter in our Base 4/3 defense until he gains weight and strength.. So he would be 4th on my list.. I think the other 3 are day one starters or close to it.. I think Burns is s 3/4 OLb or a situational Paas Rusher in our base defense..

I dont get your number 3 and 4 opinion at all..

You need to rewatch Gary stuff.. This kid day one can come in and be a CJ type of player but better.. 1. He is probably and Potentially the best run defender of the 4 because of size and strength.. Easily he's the biggest and strongest of the 4.  He can play DE in the 4/3 on run downs and move to 3 tech on passing downs.. Or play DE in the 3/4.. Easily he is the most versatile on the list.. He's the best fit for our team.. He just a boom or bust prospect.   Which is why I have him 3rd on my list..

4. The hate for Ferrell here is strange.. Dude is the most polished,  the most productive, and is the realist to start day one on the list.. He can be a 3/4 OLB and a 43 DE day 1.. He was the highest rated for the longest and was a day 1 contributor on a top team as a freshman in college.. He isn't the most athletic on this list but he is the one with the least holes in his game.. He is a great fit for this team..
