Little bit worried on this but if he plays for a contract and we don't get the poe treatment, should work out. But i do think we are looking at bpa at 16 now and the rushers are so deep that we can nab someone in the 2nd. If greedy is sitting there we better take him even tho i want a veteran corner

A source close to the process said that Irvin was close to signing elsewhere in the NFC South, but vibed great with Panthers coach Ron Rivera upon meeting with him and got a good impression - that was one of a few factors in his decision to agree to terms this morning.

Say what you want about Rivera’s coaching tactics but the guy is a players coach.

Certain people like to paint Rivera as a commander who throws his subordinates under the bus.

I prefer to picture him as a coach who holds his grown ass players accountable for their mistakes. Most players respect that.

This stat says he is actually still really, really good:

Even though Irvin is now 31 years old and has played in over 100 games, he’s worth bringing back for another round. This stat from Sheil Kapadia at the Athletic proves Irvin can still be a valuable pass-rushing threat for Atlanta, or any team. Apparently, Irvin ranked among the league’s top 10 players in sack/hit percentage when rushing the passer.

“He produced a sack or QB hit on 8.3 percent of his pass-rush opportunities. That was the ninth-best mark among the 174 players who had at least 200 pass-rush snaps last season.”

Impressive stuff from Irvin.

The Falcons should seriously consider bringing him back to help round out the edges as well as Adrian Clayborn, who was released by the Patriots.

Problem is with his age.

We're all about going young and is this just going to be Pep the last 2 seasons?

Not only a great signing for us, but we also kept him from someone else we'd play twice a year?  Win-win.
