I see people a lot posting these stats, but the question is why is he on his third team in 12 months and no other team made a bigger bid

Idk but I read Atlanta was upset for losing him but didn't have the cap to resign him. They are trying to get Julio a bigger contact too u know.

So when he starts sacking QB's, will we be yelling BRRUUUUUUUUUCEEEE?

I don't know but I think we should call the whole defense The Regulators.  And when they come on the field play part of Warren G song  "Regulators Mount up. "

There were some comments about how Irvin's effort was questionable...Give me a break. It was his first, what you would call a "down" year. That was mostly because the Raiders sucked and had locker room issues. Then he went to the Falcons halfway through the season and had to learn a new playbook. There were also comments about how he isn't here to be an every-down player....Serious? Have you seen this guy play? Irvin is one of those players that is a lot like those "special" players like J. Peppers, in the fact that they have this every down "high motor". Because of that high motor, these are the guys that can play into their mid to late 30's....Irvin is one of those players that plays with a different gear than most players. He's only 31 years old, I think he is here to fill the shoes of Thomas Davis. He's very versatile, and Ron Rivera actually talked about throwing in some 3-4 looks next season on defense. Just watch, Bruce Irvin will come into Carolina with fresh focus and FIRE in his gut. This is a great signing for what we got him for and could end up being a serious steal...This guy still has 2 to 4 good years of football in him.......WATCH!!! I really like this signing!

It's hard for me to see him as a DE in a base 4-3 set, but more of an OLB in either 4-3 or 3-4, ability to blitz or drop in coverage. Definitely one of those joker guys you can do a few things with, I just dont see him setting an edge in the run game.

Problem is with his age.

We're all about going young and is this just going to be Pep the last 2 seasons?

Valid concern as he is 31...just hoping he still has some juice left.  Appears he does with our need so great in this area this is a good solution.  Short term for sure though.  Good to protect against all the premier pass rushers going before 16 which might happen, god forbid.

Back on topic, I think Irvin will reprise a similar role to what he had in SEA being the 3rd / Strongside LB in the base 4-3 where he played opposite Wagnerm and Wright. In the 3-4 looks like OAK employed with Mack back in 2017 he will likely pair with Addision and play the left side as the rusher and be the one to drop into coverage as that is not apart of Addison's game overall.

Add in a rookie, and Haynes to rotate in and out as well as the Nickel 4 down packages and we have some real legitimate options for pressure, all the guy has done is produce.

He wanted out of OAK, and ATL couldn't afford him as they picked up the option on Beasley's 5th year, also per the reports there were more lucrative offers available, but he chose to come here. I think that in and of itself explains his value pretty clearly, considering he's on a 1 year deal, I think we will get the most out of him as he is still playing for a future contract, here, or even elsewhere.

This is a good signing.

Say what you want about Rivera’s coaching tactics but the guy is a players coach.

Certain people like to paint Rivera as a commander who throws his subordinates under the bus.

I prefer to picture him as a coach who holds his grown ass players accountable for their mistakes. Most players respect that.

Amen.

So I when I first saw that it was a one year deal I was convinced that is a good sign we will go edge with our fist pick.  That way he has a year to develop behind Addison and Irvin.

but then

I can convince myself if RR and Hurney are in win now mode (job preservation) then they could draft someone like Ford, who possible could be a day one starter at guard, and that might help us more in the short term.

So who knows, it will probably be a position that none of us are expecting, like TE.

Smokescreen

Does Hurney do a lot of smokescreen redirections before drafts? I cannot remember his history of predrafts.
