Schefter: Bruce Irvin to Panthers on 1-year deal

Considering our cap limitations going into this off season, I am pleasantly surprised at what the Panthers have been able to accomplish.  I am not saying everyone signed will be a pro bowler, will work out wonderfully, whatever.  But given our limited room, and what we've attempted to do with it.  I am pretty happy.  There are some things I'd like to see done still.  But we had a lot of issues going into the off season, and I see a lot of things being addressed.

I came in here to get the answer to that question myself.

Hard to judge based on the combined mental capacity that the huddle has demonstrated lately.

All hail Hurney?

Just go ahead and be the wet blanket you really want to be.. No need to act like you want to be objective or neutral..

I love the signing for 2 reasons.  It will give us flexibility in the draft.  We are not screwed to go De/OLB in the first.  Would it be nice yes.  But we can now go BPA.  Like Wilkins if all the top Edge guys are off the board.  Second it means we might be able to actually run some 3-4/ Hybrid looks on defense so I can stop pulling my fuggin hair out watching the rest of the NFCS pick apart our zone.  Will it work? Who knows.  But do the same ole thing is just insane at this point.

Agreed but given the one year deals. I still say we go OT and DE in the first two rounds, in no particular order.

Falcons board not happy

This offseason shaping to be one of the worst in the last 10 years.

We couldn't extend Grady, we cut Money, we pay Vic elite money and not only we don't sign anybody on the DL, but we also lose one of the key guys that we had to re-sign in Bruce.

Irvin was Beasley’s backup at LEO. We can easily replace him with a Kony Ealy type player.  Like you said, we can either draft VB’s future replacement at #14 or draft his backup (Irvin’s replacement) a couple rounds later.

This stat says he is actually still really, really good:

Even though Irvin is now 31 years old and has played in over 100 games, he’s worth bringing back for another round. This stat from Sheil Kapadia at the Athletic proves Irvin can still be a valuable pass-rushing threat for Atlanta, or any team. Apparently, Irvin ranked among the league’s top 10 players in sack/hit percentage when rushing the passer.

“He produced a sack or QB hit on 8.3 percent of his pass-rush opportunities. That was the ninth-best mark among the 174 players who had at least 200 pass-rush snaps last season.”

Impressive stuff from Irvin.

The Falcons should seriously consider bringing him back to help round out the edges as well as Adrian Clayborn, who was released by the Patriots.

Tepper and his analytics.

ATL might be aiming for Burns more than Sweat. As much as people keep pushing Sweat in the top 10, idk.

I believe either Sweat or Burns will be available at our pick.

Bruce being picked up for a year helps with depth, mentoring through experience and closing games.
