Am i insane for thinking we should give Tre Boston a look?

I think after the top safeties were picked up (Reid, Mathieu, Weddle) we're looking at the devalue we saw last off-season. Again the draft seems stocked with quality FS talent, and it makes more sense from a team's perspective to bring in a player that 1) Likely has a higher ceiling than anyone else available, and 2) will come at a better value (cap/contract lenght).

The 2nd / 3rd tier FA's will get calls once the draft is over and the dust settles in that regard IMO. As it stands we have 3 safeties penciled in for the final roster. Reid, Gaulden, Jones. If a prospect we like isn't available, Tre' Boston would be my first call.

He got a bad wrap playing out of position early on as a SS with Coleman back at the FS primarily. He's a ball hawk, not a box Safety. I recall Boston's trouble mainly due to run support. I also believe his exit was more closely tied to some of his political stance during the ''anthem protests''.

Boston did an interview a couple years ago when he was a free agent and Carolina needed a safety and he responded that the Panthers didn't put a high value on the safety position with the defensive scheme they run.  I don't see a player coming back to a team where he feels it is a low value position, especially considering the Panthers will be looking for a cheaper safety with the Reid contract.

I think we're setting up for DE in the first and FS in the second.  Ron, I believe, was quoted this off season saying we wanted to address the position with a high pick.

There is excellent value this year...we could get Adderly, Juan Thornhill,  Chauncy Gardner-Johnson, or even Savage if we like him that much.

With Reid we'd have our safeties set for the next 3 years.

doesn't mean we can't sign Boston for a mill a year.  He's definitely worth that.

No you're not. I loved the guy.  I was in the minority opinion on that when he was here.  He plays hard and has no problem tackling....did he miss because he can't keep his head up...sure, but he was more of an asset than liability when he was on the field in my opinion.

I will stick with my prediction of Searcy at FS.  Not that I like it but he is a RR’s man crush.  And he lost a bunch a weight when he came here.   He will be our starting FS whether I like it or not.

I honestly am getting that feeling as well.

Yeah, if we need somebody to tale bad angles or slow down to avoid contact, he's the man!

You need to get over 2 years ago.  The guy has improved.. Check the stats.  Better than any safety we've had since he left..

If that happens I'll be sick... Rivera will be on that stupid poo with that move.. How many concussions from bad tackling does a jag have to get before you move on to a younger and better option..

The fact that he is still on the roster is what makes me think that. Why keep him unless you plan on him being in the lineup?

Ron is unforgiving when it comes to screw ups at the safety position. He will not allow our last line of defense to make mental errors for very long. Yes he will cut some slack for new guys, but eventually he will cut ties altogether. Ron favors low price be where you're supposed to be safeties. When Boston was still making mental mistakes in his 3rd season Ron said that he was worried about Boston. Sure enough Boston didn't receive a new contract.

There was a time when I wanted better safeties, but not anymore. I'd rather cut costs on defense and load up the offense given that the rules heavily favor the offense over the defense.
