He can't tackle, but he has improved teams pass coverage that he's gone to since his time here. Also, only costs about 1-2 mil a year for the last two years.

We'll sign him after the draft. I hope we snag Darnell Savage out of Maryland though. Dude is the next stud safety.

He's what we need as a FS, both in skills and in price. He had some difficulties here early in his career, but from everything I've seen, he's learned and developed quite a bit. I love a good redemption story, so I'm pulling for him to be back with the Panthers.

If his price stays at or below 2 million, for sure. With the safety market blowing up, he is probably looking for more and honestly would probably justify a contract approaching Vaccaro's (although I wouldn't bite at that salary). If he doesn't sniff any offers soon, ups our chance of getting him at a bargain.

We need a Free Safety. Obviously with our cap space, Hurney will wait until after the draft and after the June cap space shows up to make any more moves.

or who knows— everything to this point has been under the radar and sudden. Maybe there’s another in the works now.

Really think Hurney is waiting to see how the draft plays out before he goes after a vet FS. I think they truly want to get a game changer back there with high end speed.

This is a guy I think we might end up taking if he is there in the 2nd at our pick, S Chauncey Gardner-Johnson:

He fits a lot of what Hurney looks for in his DB's versatility. I know a lot of ppl didn't like the Gaulden pick last year, but Gaulden was exactly like DBs Hurney has drafted before him: Sherrod Martin and Charles Godfrey. These guys all had one thing in common: position versatility.

A lot of NFL teams are looking to find that Honey Badger type player, the Swiss Army Knife who can play all over the field. That's what CGJ is. He needs to be more consistent but he has a lot of talent.

Yep, guys like Wade Phillips and BB want versatility above all else. We need that too in a lot of areas. Like CMac, running back, receiver, handles a lot. It would be great to get guys that can do DE, OLB, or Safety LB, or Safety CB that can play SS and FS. Just helps disguise coverage and helps when someone goes down.

Can't agree more with this post. Also disguising coverage helps when your pass rush is less than stellar, which the Panthers definitely check that box.

Should have never got cut, was always solid depth at worst, I think some of the mistakes he made on the field got overblown drastically, but he’s progressed nicely the last couple of seasons, surprised he hasn’t gotten offers from other teams, but I think it’s a no brained bringing him in.
