We could have the best DB's in the NFL. It doesn't matter if we don't get pressure on the QB. When a QB has all day to throw eventually someone will get open.

I wouldn't be surprised if we double dip at DE or at least a DE and DT in the 1st 2 rounds. We need to get a pass rush before anything else. This is a passing league, DE's and DT's are becoming the most important positions on defense.

 

Look at guys like Donald/Mack/Watt are getting paid compared to other defensive players. Pass rush! We need em!

Only way I think we go DB is if in this scenario if Greedy Williams falls to us. Otherwise I think we are going DE or DT.

Completely agree. I thought we originally brought Cockrell in last year to play out side and have Jackson be nickel? Hopefully we press more and get hands on WRs early to allow the DL to get some pressure. I am guess that last year with all the off coverage, the coaching staff thought they had to do that due to all the injuries. Bradberry is a solid press db, let’s do that more.

If Jackson goes to the slot it is because we have a better option on the outside. If he is the best outside guy he will play there. I figure Fewell will know who should play where when the season starts. We just need a stud nickel who ever that might be.

Nothing would surprise me. We all are hung up on DE or OT so much we don’t remember Hurneys big board for BPA usually dictates what goes next.

We haven’t had anyone reliable in the slot since Capt left the first time around.

We all know the Shaq covering slot receivers experiment failed miserably.

Well Bradberry is in a contract year so I could see it... at the same time we almost HAVE to go DE with the first pick. Unless we end up eyeing someone like Ferguson in the second but the Vernon Butler experiment left a sour taste in my mouth regarding Louisiana Tech D linemen.

I agree with this---Jackson also gambles  a bit more than I  prefer.  If his teammate Greedy Williams is there, that could  make our secondary beyond scary--if we can add a FS.  I have also wondered if Gaulden is not slated for certain sets as a nickel

I'm starting to wonder if our coaching staff would give up on Gaulden as a FS prospect and try him at NB considering some thought that was the position he best projected to in the NFL

There is a reason Fewell was brought in and our secondary coach fired. The scheme was poor, communication was lousy and our corners got exposed on simple double moves. It was embarrassing.

Oh yeh,... there were multiple games we would have won with a better secondary the last few years. Many actually.

yes it’s the pass rush too but there’s only so much that can be done when quarterbacks can get the ball out in under 2 seconds and burn us bad— worst when intermediate routes kill us.

I'm all for playing him wherever he fits best. Just because we drafted him as a FS doesn't necessarily mean that was the right evaluation. We already have a 3rd round pick invested in him, give him every opportunity to prove that it was a good investment and if that means a move to nickelback, fine.
