PFF: After-the-catch numbers could signal an impending fantasy breakout for D.J. Moore

Moore wasn't brought in because he was 'ready', (and neither was Norwell) he was brought in because Rivera had no choice due to injury PER USUAL. And yea, that's a shitty philosophy. And proven it was shitty time and time again. It's Rivera's weakness and shows time and time again with rookies vs. vets.

I mean I'm really not sure what you're trying to argue the facts and history are there, at the end of the day it's obvious Moore (and past players) should have not been on the bench.

You’re comparing a first round WR to an undrafted offensive lineman...you’re talking about Moore like he’s some “hidden gem” who was sitting on the bench buried on the depth chart until Smith got injured. The plan the whole time was to ease Moore into the starting lineup.  Ridley was always considered the more “pro ready” wide receiver, which you always have to account for on a case by case basis when teams decide whether to start their rookie receiver right off the bat. Moore was notably more raw but with a higher ceiling.

You make it sound like Smith got injured and Rivera was like “Crap! Who’s that #12 kid? Let’s try him out. Woooah...he’s good....! What’s his name again?”.

I'm with @panthers55 on this one.  DJ had to learn the entire route tree and offense as a whole.  He wasn't ready to start right out the gates.  He even admits as much during a haircut with ex-Panther Sherrod Martin.  Straight up said the hardest thing was learning the playbook and adjusting to a Pro style offense and you can tell by the way he said it, that it truly was challenging in the early going.

I don't have all the faith in the world in RR as a talent evaluator....but I don't think that was the root cause here with this scenario and how DJ's rookie season snaps played out.

You could've saved yourself a lot of typing with a simple, "I blindly trust Ron Rivera."

Do you want to address his point about other teams? Was every team who has ever sat their rookie first round quarterback (which happens quite often, including 4 times this season) simply ignorant to their rookie’s talent? Or is there ever a case where it’s justified to ease a rookie into the lineup? This whole black-and-white mentality all over these boards is what makes it hard to have meaningful discussion.

Do you really think, for example, that Hue Jackson evaluated Tyrod Taylor as having more talent than Baker Mayfield? There is more to it than just throwing the most “talented” guy on the field. This isn’t backyard football where you say “Hey you! Go long!” and just heave a pass up there. Experience and preparation matter. Moore was GETTING the experience..he was playing about 50% of snaps in the weeks leading up to Smith’s injury. He wasn’t sitting there rotting away on the bench.

Starting a rookie QB vs a rookie WR is completely different

Do you care to elaborate? Or just because you said so?

Obviously positions are inherently different, but the relevant questions are:

A) do they both have a learning curve?

and

B) do they both utilize a playbook that must be mastered?

LOL

If I could buy you for what you're worth and sell you for what you think you're worth I could retire wealthy before I turn 40.

If you could make the money you think you deserve as a football expert you would be rich as well.   Unfortunately you are only a legend in your own mind.

QB's have to know everyone's individual assignments and understand the offense to the point where they can adjust plays situationally, on the fly.  WRs just need to learn their route. It's why guys like KB can start like two weeks after getting the playbook in Buffalo.

@rayzor is this cool?? Or....

Go cry yourself to sleep. Yeah, I called your dad out for his constant passive aggressive condescending crap. Plenty of the regulars here have been tired of it for a long time.

I really don't think that 55 would stoop as low as creating an alt account, but damn if this one doesn't fit the bill though.

No I don't have alts. But still you are nasty and rude unnecessarily. Whether someone is tiring or boring or whatever doesn't justify being a jerk to them. Just because someone doesn't call you an asshole like you have, doesn 't make your behavior justified. Most folks stop acting this way after middle school.
