Post FA mock

Now that it looks like FA is all but over ill go ahead and update my mock

1st: Brian Burns- I just Do Not see 5 edge rushers going in the top 15.  Especially with the teams with the top needs and Edge just filled those needs in FA.  Rivera seemed concerned with the lack of pressure the defense got last year, as he should be.  He has said he is going to be shifting more to a 3-4 hybrid.  Some even think he will be even more 3-4 base this year.  Burns is a uber Versatile OLB.  His biggest converns all along was just that he was rail thin.  He showed up to the combine at 250 without losing speed or bend (4.53 40)

2nd: Charles Omenihu- yes the double dip.  Omenihu is more of the 3-4DE though.  Reminds me A Lot of Calais Campbell who was a absolute stud in Arizona in the 3-4.

Omenihu has the size power and speed to fit in there.  Can win on the outside or inside

Here is Omenihu pushing Andre Dillard back like a sled at the seniorbowl

Omenihu

3rd: Juan Thornhill- deep Saftey FA class filled a Lot of openings, pushing safeties down the board.

Thornhill had a Real nice combine showing he has the range with his athletic ability to cover the field.  Much like Justin Reid last year who lit the combine up opening some eyes, he will fall to the 3rd.

3rd comp: Damien Harris-  may suprise some he falls here.  But Harris is the 4th-5th RB on many people boards.   Rivera specifically noted the depth of this RB class And needing to find CMC a sidekick.  Rivera has seen how the Saints has ran the last 2 seasons and also seen what happens when your workhorse RB gets ran into the ground and hurt (see Rams this past season).

Harris is that perfect compliment and a good short yardage powerback.  Panthers new Runningbacks coach just was hired from Alabama where he was a offensive analyst specifically work with the run pass option portion of Alabama's offense

4th: Nate Davis- the OG had a nice seniorbowl week.  Van Roten was avg at best last year at LG and only reason he didnt catch anyone's attention was because how terrible the LT position was.  Davis is a local prospect from UNC Charlotte, and will push competition with Van Roten.

5th: Mark Fields Jr- panthers Nickelback was a huge liability.  Fields has the athletic ability and potential.  Also a legacy kid

6th: Clayton Thorson- has the tools, and a kid they can groom.

So no developmental Tackle?   I think we need one to take place of Williams in future. But since we need him you are probably right.  Hurney passed on a bunch of tackles last year and we needed them.

Overall I can live with this draft.

We have 2 solid starters this year

Can't say the same on D even before us trying to transition to a new scheme.

If Moton is the guy we start to groom as the LT, we can easily draft a round 1-2 guy next years draft to replace Williams

Obada is definitely a DE.  No where near the skills or body type to be a outside LB..

And you have all the rookies starting??? Yeah that won't happen..

And you think he has the body to play 3-4DE? He gets easily pushed around, he'd get wrecked.  His athletic ability is whats got him by, heck remember his int this year too.  He'd be a OLB in a 3-4

Yes rookie's starting

1. Omenihu is the only guy who really wouod be a boneafied DE.

2. Burns is a true 3-4OLB and would immediately become the best edge rusher on the roster

3. Gaulden? Really....Gaulden? Starting at FS over a good athletic FS who fell.  A guy who'd be a 2nd round many other years.  Over one of the least athletic guys ever to come out, who wasnt projected higher than a 4th, who hasnt proved anything?

4. Van Roten was a UDFA for a reason last year, he's not a cool Norwell story.  Kid is alright but was avg at best last year.  If it wasnt for the LT dumpster fire drawing everyones attention, people woupd be saying dam we miss Norwell.  Davis may not beat him out, but very well could too.  Itd be a strong competition.

We had 3 rookies starting last year.  We have more holes this year but cant have 4 rookies starting?

1. No 6'6 270. Alot closer to 3/4 end than he is OLB. He is a 4/3 DE (which we still will play) and will come off the field when they use some 3/4 looks.. Not that hard.. I don't understand how some of you think being a 3/4 olb is easy or nearly the same job as a 43 de?? Literally right now Obada is the biggest DE on the roster..

2. Please Name me 1 time in NFL history a whole draft class found their way to the starting line up?? I know at no time in panthers history that has ever happened... You are dreaming..

Its not all about size.  And as you mention the 4-3 DE to 3-4 OLB not being easy.  The same can be said about 3-4 DE's which a lot of times are small quick DTs because the need to 2 gap well Yes, he is 6'6 270, but heck Josh Allen who many say is the best 3-4 OLB in this draft class is 6'5 262.  Obada had more of the finesse playing style nit syraigh up power.  He's just not a good fit there, him being a standup rusher is a better fit.

All of them starting?

Only ones I listed starting were. Burns, Omenihu, Thornhill, and Davis.  Who again Davis will have to compete.

Fields is a Nickel, not a starter, comes in certain packages so not a starter.  So thats 4.

Last year we started,  Moore, Jackson, and Thomas.  Thats 3.  And we had less holes on the roster at the time

Sorry dude it doesn't make sense.. You literally have Cox jr. Listed as a 3/4 DE and Obada is a bigger man than him... How do you know his strength difference with Cox?? Dude is a foriegn transition player who probably just learned enough to make a roster as a 43 DE.. Why make him try to make that transition when its probably easier to just learn 34 de??

2. Do you know who coaches this team?? Do you know how long it took DJ to get starting snaps?? And Ian only got them because of injuries and then back to the bench... Do you honestly think Ron Rivera is starting 4 maybe 5 rookies?? With his job on the line?? You be lucky if 2 players start with this coaching staff..

Also in this passing league we play nickle more than a base defense.. So who ever plays nickle back is pretty much a starter..

Your draft is okay but I definitely think they will add a oline men sooner especially if you think he will start.. And Backup RB isn't a 3rd round need.. You will find a bunch of them still on the street before TC who can do that job...
