He has sucked his entire career. If that is because he is always injured....then you don't sign him to a mega-deal. Likewise, if that is because he just flat sucks, then you just don't sign him at all.

He was 100% risk, 0% reward. Said it at the time, will continue to say it.

This is a prime example of why I just want this buffoon gone, so I never again have to even debate how terrible this decision was.

Not true. He played very well early in his career, but his body couldn't hold up.

And yeah, I believe that's why he's bad. Injuries don't just prevent you from playing. They also alter the way you play. If you doubt that, ask Cam Newton.

I put Kalil in the same category as RG3. Plenty of ability, but not enough durability.

Agree to disagree. For a guy that has supposedly been injured his whole career he sure has started a lot of games. He didn't miss a start from being drafted until 2016. That excuse doesn't fly for me. He just isn't a good NFL tackle, plain and simple.

It doesn't matter, he will be someone else's problem in the near future.

Some guys on here are infinitely better at understanding the cap, so is there any way to restructure and help our situation while kalil still gets paid?  I hear things like converting to a signing bonus to clear space, but I really never understood how that could help, but I'm interested to see if it would be a possibility (and maybe an explanation of why that kind of stuff works).

If you look at injury strictly as something that either prevents you from starting or not, you're not getting the whole picture.

It's possible to play, and even start, when injured and have it affect both your style and quality of play.

As mentioned before, if you need an example to illustrate that, look at our  quarterback. What you saw in Cam Newton last season has basically been the majority of Matt Kalil's career.

He looked really good as a rookie. He hasn't ever since.

Look, we just aren't going to agree on this. I am not going to buy the health thing because in his "healthiest" season he was supposed to have had he was atrocious. And it  was here.

Let's just get rid of his ass and strike his name from our memories other than as a precautionary tale on why you should never hand over a mega-contract to someone who has years of bad play behind them.

Wait, still talking about Kalil? We owe him nothing. That $15m is the cap space we pushed out of 2017/2018. We only owe him $7.25 IF we are dumb enough to not release him today.

Why is he still here? Who cares if he can play guard? He sucks. Get a solid guard for much cheaper at 47 or one of the 3rds.

I'm only talking about it in terms of our leverage in forcing him to take a pay cut. We don't have any.

I've never suggested we hang on to him.

Explaining why he was bad doesn't equate to saying he isn't bad.

I really could not possibly care less why he is bad, regardless of us agreeing or disagreeing over that. I don't care, the point is that he IS bad and WAS bad.

Good fuging riddance to him.

True but I don’t want him back. I’d rather force our hand to find good younger guys to develop. I’m still pissed we took Haynes over Crosby. He’d be a great swing tackle and probably able to take over for Williams in 2020. I’d still take another tackle this year no matter what. You can never have enough.

Oh, I completely agree. It's time for us to move on from Kalil.

And yeah, we should definitely look to add another OT. It looks like Williams' knee injury comes with a significant risk of re-injury and he's only on a one year contract anyway. We need OT depth anyway and we may need a new starter in '20 either way.

Unresolved issue for the #Panthers: The status of LT Matt Kalil, whose $7M salary become fully guaranteed tomorrow. My understanding is no decision is coming soon, because Kalil’s salary is guaranteed for injury already – he’s still rehabbing his knee. No rush for a resolution

FFS!
