Maybe I shouldn’t be, but I’m amazed at how bad at math people are. Lol.

I used to be, but I'm not anymore. Working in sales for years and having to repeatedly explain promo offers over and over again and still see it in their faces that they're clueless. I have the relationship with some of my accounts that literally I just send them what they need and they pay the bill. They know I'm going to take care of them.

I’m just as concerned with his physical and mental toughness. He strikes me as vulnerable in both areas.

He’s carrying a ton of rust, and even when he didn’t, he was frequently getting abused on the edge. He also blew some fundamental assignments early on in his tenure in the run game alone. He doesn’t play fast. Never has.

I understand the cap concerns, and that’s something the economics guys will have to sort out. I understand the idea of wanting to get something out of that ridiculous contract.

From a football standpoint, I’m hard-pressed to find any value.

The dead cap seems big but honestly while it’s been a bad deal it hasnt set this franchise back for years like some people think. As long as Hurney cuts him today, it’s basically a two year deal at $12.5m per season. $25m total so $30m of the total deal never happened. The dead cap is because we only took $5m cap hits each year with bonuses. It’s still $25m total but we’ve only recognized $10m in cap hits so $15m to swallow.

Fair enough.

It would be nice to have the left tackle position held down with active contracts that yield value. That hasn’t happened in a long time here.

My take on Kalil has long been that we took a gamble on him being healthy but he never was.

I'll always wonder if we would have done the deal without Ryan on the team and Jerry Richardson saying "spend money".

But ya know, "ifs and buts"...

There were better options to spend money on. No one put a gun to the side of DG's head.

To me, a gamble on health looks something like Daryl William's one year $6M deal. We gave Kalil a TON of guaranteed money in that gamble. He didn't work out and here we are three years down the road still trying to navigate that mess. If Daryl doesn't work out, we've spent $6M this year with zero future cap repercussions. That's quite a bargain considering it looks like we're going to spend $5M on Torrey Smith.

Who the fug gambles with a contract like that??? That isn't gambling, that is just flushing money down the toilet. The fact is, health or not, he has been a terrible OT for every single season of his career outside his rookie year. It was an ATROCIOUS decision at the time and in hindsight, it looks even more atrocious.

At this point, I literally just want to see him jettisoned so I can try and forget he ever came here.

Every big contract is also a big gamble.

On every instance, uou're gambling that a guy is going to both stay healthy and be good enough to earn the salary you're paying him.

Kalil came with additional risk, so yeah it's a bigger gamble on the health front, but those gambles have been known to pay off before.

This time, not so much.

How? You're still going to have to pay him an additional $7M. His dead cap is just that. There's no way to get to the it back. It'll hit us no matter what. That's a terrible excuse to throw good money after bad.

I agree.

never throw good money at bad money

cut his ass Hurney

He has sucked his entire career. If that is because he is always injured....then you don't sign him to a mega-deal. Likewise, if that is because he just flat sucks, then you just don't sign him at all.

He was 100% risk, 0% reward. Said it at the time, will continue to say it.

This is a prime example of why I just want this buffoon gone, so I never again have to even debate how terrible this decision was.
