Our QB Situation

First off, I have been lurking here for quite some time, but just decided to register and get involved during this travesty of a season we're having so far. I have been a die-hard panthers fan since they announced the team and I am generally obsessed with football. Also I enjoy long walks on the beach and the flamenco guitar.

Now for my actual post...

It's fairly obvious even to the most avid Jake supporters at this point that he sucks...flat out...he is done....thanks for the good times, but he just is too inaccurate to lead this team when we need a guy that isn't going to make mistakes to supplement our running game.

Now I am a realistic person and I know that we are playing terrible right now, but I see a lot of people saying this season is over which I don't really get. If we continue to play like we've been playing sure, its over, but technically if we won every game from here on we'd finish with the same excellent record as last year. Is it likely? Obviously not, but you can't say the season is over after 6 games regardless of how frustrating it is.

This brings me to my actual point, our QB, the biggest hurdle we've yet faced this season. For the past couple years I've seen all these Matt Moore supporters wanting him to play, and now everyone does. I don't know if this is a product of Jake being so horrible or if people think that Moore is honestly good, but I really don't see Moore being the answer. I personally feel he has very little upside and is a backup if anything, and obviously the coaching staff feels the same way since they've stuck with Jake even though their jobs depend on it. Will he do better than Jake at this point, maybe, but he is not our only option.

What free agents are available at this point? Obviously we are past the trade deadline so that's out of the question, not that there are many backup QBs worth trading for. A couple guys on practice squads stand out to me, the first being Brian Brohm. What happened to this guy? Why is noone at least looking at him? He very well may have been the top pick in 07 had he come out and he decided to be loyal to his team and try for a championship. He tied with Matt Ryan for the top Wunderlich score in 08. We seem to really like Louisville QBs on top of all that.

Also I think Andre Woodson has a lot of upside. He's chilling on the Redskins practice squad as of now. I just think we need to find a young QB with a high ceiling and let him learn from Jake for a little while. Say what you will about his playing this year but the guy still knows the game of football and has a fantastic attitude that a young QB would do well to absorb.

I won't even get going on the other problems facing our beloved Panthers and their coaching staff, but I would REALLY like to see us take a flier on a guy like Brohm. What do we have to lose at this point? Are there any other young guys that are available around the league that may be able to give us some hope for the future or maybe even this season? (That is if we would just continue to RUN THE FRICKIN BALL)

^ Exactly!

The only games that Moore started in he played well. Is the the future? Who the hell knows but we sure aint going to find out by letting Jake continue to lose games for us. It is time to give Moore a shot and see if he is worth keeping around. If not, cut him loose too and get someone else in here.

I would not be opposed to looking at some other teams' projects but unless they are more ready to come in and start right now than Moore then it should be him.

    • You realize the Commanders and Texans both had trash rosters. That's how they ended up with the #2 pick.   How all of sudden they go from bottom feeders to a playoff team the following season?   I think you don't realize the true impact of a franchise QB. It's crazy people still trying to debate the value of the QB position.   Y'all living in the 90's football isn't played that way anymore. The Baltimore Ravens dominate defense won in a different era. This is a QB era. You can't hit them like you could in the past. The rules have changed in favor of the QB.   Look at the elite teams in the league they all have elite QBs. Without the QB your franchise is going nowhere.   7 years under Tepper and fans still haven't realized this. Well keep ignoring the QB position and we will keep sucking. It's really that simple.
    • He needs to retire. His short stint returning to play for us showed Ho bad his shoulder had degraded.  No team is going to sign him. As soon as he retires the celebration of his career can begin.
    • The recipe over the last 5 years: 1. draft a guy with high athletic ability at a position of need.  2. play him out of his natural position because you have a big hole to fill. 3. watch him struggle.  4. let a young and promising talent grow depressed and apathetic because a God forsaken franchise is ruining what he has busted his ass his entire life to achieve.  The only reason Luke moved to the middle was because Beason got hurt. Think about that. It’s complete arrogance of the coaching staff to tell a player where he’s better suited… or the mark of a desperate team who drafts out of need.    This is what happens to teams that draft poorly and have no depth. Constantly working from behind and drafting for need.
