I think reward outweighs the risk. What if Moton is great at LT and Williams returns to all pro form?

Of course Williams could get hurt again but I wouldn’t be opposed to bringing Clark back to back up. He played pretty admirably for his skills.

Big reward from big risk. If you hit the jackpot that's good on that.

It's like Le'Veon Bell and his situation. He had to settle for less overall money with the Jets than his 70 million with the Steelers.

But he has more guaranteed money with the Jets than the Steelers ever allowed him. He chose to be safe than sorry.

Hurney 2.0 is killing it so far... let Williams test the market and then reeled him back in at a very reasonable price. The big guy showed a lot of promise before his knee injury. Marty is using FA to setup the draft... we no longer have to find a center or tackle. I'm betting Moton plays LT and Kalil/Williams compete for the starting RT gig.

Ah,  I see, he is overrated because he struggled a bit on the road in the loudest stadium in the league against a Pro-bowl defensive end. Yeah totally not worth 6 mil. /s

Also, they put him on that side so cam HAS to roll to his left.

What you mean? Cam Jordan sucks, he beats no other tackles.

/sarcasm. Kinda like people giving Remmers such are hard time for not blocking the best pass rusher in the league who was on a roll at the time, much like Jordan was during the playoffs last season. Now find these issues against regular pass rushers on a consistent basis then we have a problem. But for 6 mil, that is almost a steal.

It's likely Williams thinks there's opportunity for a longer-term deal after this contract is up. And, he wouldn't take a one-year prove-it deal if he didn't think he'd immediately get back on the field. This smells of M. Kalil implications.

Now, IF we draft a tackle AND cut Kalil, then I'm content.

Maybe I'm more scared that Kalil will be our LT instead of Moton overall if the coaches can't evaluate whatsoever.

Williams as an average + guy being back at 6mill is heaps better than Byron Bell, Remmers, Chandler, Clark, Kalil types playing.

Agree they MUST draft another tackle regardless. Williams isn't a sure health bet or a bet past 2019. Kalil is garbage and they have nothing else after that.

If Hurney kicks the can down the road this draft he should be out ASAP. The model is to continually have developing talent in the wings to replace the current starters. Pats and Steelers have done this for years. Draft, develop, year after year. If we don't have another guy in the wings, we will overpay (Williams or FA) or the team underperforms.

No one sees this point at all on this site. I just don't understand how putting Williams at RT is far more a risk than keeping that right side elite with Moton and just drafting a LT instead instead of creating a situation of unknowns with hoping Williams is healthy coming back on the RT spot and Moton can play LT. Two potential areas of risk vs one.

Any guy who gets second team All-Pro has to be elite after all. Just like anyone who's been a pro-bowler *cough* Matt Kalil *cough* has to have been elite too.

Oh wait.

I see your point. In fact, there was a write up on it in the RR a few weeks back. https://theriotreport.com/the-case-for-matt-kalil/

BUT, I find it impossible not to get excited about getting Williams for $6M. At this point, keeping Matt as back up LT is a safe (but more expensive) plan B. Matt would essentially cost us $7.25 M this year. That's the amount of cap $ opened by cutting him June 2, which we can't actually use for a FA now anyway. If, as you foretell, Moton can't handle LT or Williams gets hurt or can't handle RT, just put Moton back on the right side and (shudder) put Kalil or draft pick at LT. If we get lucky enough to draft a stud LT...cut Matt's sorry ass and roll the $7.25 to next year.

Williams spoke to a few other clubs. They were close on some longer deals that weren't quite perfect for him. But the injury, plus the fact that Williams and his wife LOVE Charlotte, made this prove-it deal in Carolina too good to pass up.

Code for he was offered 3 yrs 12mil..5 guarenteed...lol.

Bring up the Bills game. Rough stint for him.

Matter of fact, really just evaluate his one-on-one snaps where Dickson isn't giving him help. Because Norv's scheme has significantly less TE help than Shula's did.

Soooo, let me get this straight.  You will use PFF stats to bolster your argument that he is not very good. But that same site with the same stats had him 2nd team PFF in 2017.  They knew he got help, and still had him second team.

You know, a lot of it has to do with setting an edge so that Cam can roll right if he needs to.  Curious, I don't have PFF, but how often did moton get help?
