To be fair, Dan Morgan was "competent" (and much more) but he had a lot of trouble staying healthy.

I agree with the signing, but it's worth remembering that "competent" doesn't help if it's on the sideline.

Understand, still seems to be a severe overreaction to me.

For some reason? How about this:

Just in case you missed it, on Friday his 2019 salary is guaranteed and for those scoring at home that means no savings if you cut him. Also, you can designate him as a post June 1st cut, you don’t have to wait until June 1st. You get two of those every year.

I think we're keeping him......for now.

As expected.

This always seemed to be the best thing for both sides since he got injured week 1, but teams have shown recently that they are willing to hand out huge deals to all pro players even coming off injury. Based on reports I highly doubt the Panthers expected to be able to keep him. This is a surprising development, as I think most were expecting him to have a decent enough market, but fortunately for us it just never developed for whatever reason.

Gantt understands the concern...

I get the concern, but I never thought Williams was going to get double what he got coming off of an injury like he had. We are talking a RT where the "value" is far less than a LT. I had figured myself around $7M would be a good price. A month ago, Jason from Over the Cap had his market at about $8M.

We probably will never know the details of other offers he may or may not have received, but its plausible he wanted to come back to Carolina on this deal to an environment he is comfortable with in order to rebuild his stock rather than going to a new organization on a 1 yr deal.

Panthers know way more than you and other teams about the status of his knee. This isn't a player who's proven to be injury prone. It was a one off injury that got hurt again after he returned too soon. With nearly a year to heal fully from it there's no reason to think he won't be fine.

"For now" becomes "this season" if he's still on the roster after Friday.

It's hard to imagine they won't let him go by then.  Maybe they're just waiting till the Williams signing is official.

It's still a judgment call, and judgment calls can be wrong.

Hope this one's right.

I think Rodrigue said one of his offers was for 3 years.

There was some vague mention of other teams "not being a fit" but who knows what that means?

I expected him back based on the fact that no team knows him as well as we do. He hasn't played since his surgery. So his greatest value, was with us. No one is going to give an offense of tackle big money, when he hasn't proven that he's back from a serious knee injury.
