Than Gettelmen and the Giants should have known this last year before signing him.. They could have traded him last year and not have the dead money..

Also let's remember this.. Gman isn't Young.. This is atleast a 3 year rebuild to be competitive again and that's in the perfect scenario that he really hits on his picks.. History is iffy on that..

He just set the table for the next Giants GM imo..

Contract was done last August and John Mara was already at the end of his rope with Beckham 2 months later in October....who knows what kind of foolish things OBJ has been up to since then.

This is Gettelmen pattern plain and simple.. I can't wait for him losing Sheppard and the other parts of the secondary.. So he can prove to everybody his genius as he tries to build 2 position groups in 1 offseason.. lol

Seen this story before..lol

Nonsense.

Clearly something material has changed since the new contract was signed last August.

The Giants owners signed off on the contract, and the trade.  No possible way moves of the magnitude of these two were done without the full involvement and support of ownership.

You are kidding yourself if you think otherwise.

No genius 2009 -2010 was the cap crushing decision years.. 2011 was the start of the rebuild and it didn't take Nostradamus to see  Cam was getting better Luke made the defense better the team was a few coaching moves and balls bouncing there way on being a better team.. Because you couldn't see it isn't my fault .

lol

you completely overlook the ridiculous contract extensions doled out immediately after the lockout ceased in the summer of 2011. the cap situation from that point was so bad that almost all of our available money up to 2015 was spoken for in prorated signing bonuses.

this franchise was going nowhere under the leadership of JR and hurney. get back to me when you have a clue.

I'll start off by stating that DG's people skills are crap and the contract he gave out to Matt Kalil really fuged us over...

But this trade isn't even as close to as bad as people are making it seem.

NFL players, like cars, usually see their value depreciate once they've been taken off the lot.

OBJ was drafted with the 12th overall pick... DG turned him into the 17th, 25th (Peppers), and the 95th overall picks.

In comparison the Raiders drafted Mack with the 5th overall pick and they turned him into the 24th, a more than likely late first round pick in 2020, a late third round pick in 2020, and a late sixth round pick in this years draft; while also giving up a second round pick in 2020 (which will probably be high), and a conditional fifth round pick.

The only difference in the trade is that Peppers is essentially the additional first round pick in the OBJ trade rather than it being an actual pick.

On paper, the Mack trade is so much worse than this trade.

You have to keep in mind how often first round receivers bust. It doesn't matter too much where you're picking in the first round, it's always a gamble at receiver.

Gettleman was good during his time here.

Gettleman is the worst thing to happen to the Giants.

Both can be and are true.

Everything good Gettleman did in his early years with the Panthers was pretty much completely negated with how bad he fuged us on his way out. The only way to justify the Smith and Gross situations were that he was trying to fix our cap situation. There is still no excuse for the Norman debacle imo. He should have never rescinded the tag and never triple dipped on CBs in the draft.

He was an overall average GM during his time in Carolina. No better or worse than Hurney. Hurney had a good run early in his tenure with the Panthers as well and flamed out by making some very poor football decisions.

Just like with Hurney, Dave left us with a ton of terrible contracts and a team with numerous holes to fill.

Nonsense he did it here 2014 (Wr corp and oline) and 2016 (Secondary)..

Reality check..

Gman loved to show ppl he can replace them with lesser talent.. He also love changing position groups in the offseason..
