Details on Matt Paradis' Deal: Only 3.8M cap hit first year

Some interesting numbers from here:

Some quick reactions to these numbers:

  • Hurney's letting the later years take the brunt of the contract. The existence of void years also brings back his classic trademark of manipulating the cap to favor the present.
    • Nick Korte expounds on that point a bit here: "When Paradis's contract expires after the 2021 season, $3.6 million in dead money will hit the Panthers' 2022 cap. It's an accounting maneuver in order to save more cap space through the duration of the contract when it's active."
  • Good bit of money locked in around workout and roster bonuses: 4.5M from the looks of things
  • These numbers suggest Hurney's not done in FA thus far. Expect another move.

Hurney 2.0 has been savvy. Having Tepper watch over him and knowing Hurney is going to grand slam his first round pick makes me a tiny bit hopeful for the season. If only we could magically take Cam Newtons shoulder back in time to 2015

    • Everybody is mocking either Jeanty or Walker to Vegas, but if I was the Raiders I would be taking TMac. Him + Bowers + Jakobi Meyers is a very potent passing attack. They already have Crosby and RB isn't worth a top 6 pick.
    • its almost impossible to be a billionaire without leaving a trail of bodies in your wake. capitalism demands a few winners and a ton of losers
    • bingo that's the problem we want to play balanced football .however if you want to play balanced football then why would  you do this ? this season it's been all defense while all at the same time ignoring the offense in FA  the season before that  it was all offense & even  let a lot of key contributors walk on the defensive side of the ball in order to free up cap space so they can in turn spend more money on the offense & then in the draft they  drafted a WR in the 1st & a RB in the 2nd   & then before that a few seasons ago when we needed a Qb  we traded  Caleb Williams & Jalen Carter &  2 seconds our WR1 DJ Moore for a Qb Bryce Young  LOL there is nothing balanced about this team whatsoever if anything it's the complete opposite of balanced
