So the Panthers lost starters at:

safety

nickel

linebacker

defensive end

defensive tackle

#1 wide receiver

offensive tackle

And they only have $17M in cap space and can't go after any free agents? What the bloody hail is going on around here?!

The reason for this is because the Panthers front office has failed to engage in the act of super session. Peppers was 37 years old yet we refused to prioritize and draft a DE that could eventually take his spot. Why? Were we thinking Peppers is never gnna retire? That’s what successful franchises do, supersede via the draft. They draft players that will take over the elder or players that won’t be with the team in the near future.

Bengals draft Kirkpatrick even though they had Terrence Newman and Adam Jones. Newman leaves, Kirkpatrick takes his role. Bengals draft Tyler Boyd and John Ross. They cut Lafell and those two are their to fill his role. Recently they drafted Jessie Bates. Illoka leaves and Bates fills his shoes.

This is how front offices are supposed to run, by making sure they plan ahead, so when players leave, they already have a trained, groomed, and competent player ready to take the role.

The first four, yes we lost starters but they were all pretty ineffective. A bargain bin FA could easily replace any of those 4. Didn't lose any DT starters, if you're talking about Love we could still re-sign him and even if not, he's just a rotational guy, not a big deal to replace. By the end of the year Funch was barely a #4 receiver. Williams was hurt all of last year so it's no different from last year.

One you missed was more significant than any of the ones you listed, and that was Kalil at C, but we now have an upgrade and replacement.

Yes, there are things to be concerned about, but it's hardly all doom and gloom.

I'd share a beer with you if I was up in Bean Town. Your mature approach and perspectives aren't necessarily the Huddle norm.

Hurney needs to be on the phone with Minnesota for Everson Griffen. Minnesota will have to clear some space for Barr’a return. If Griffen clears mentally he would be our best pass rusher instantly. Had a cap hit of 11m this season. Not bad at all.

Seriously doubt he'd clear mentally, unforch

Appreciate the correction. Add starting Center to the list. I agree there aren't many significant losses to onfield play, but that isn't my point at all.

My point is "how do you release/not re-sign this many starters and still not have cap space to show for it. Doesn't matter if they were great/good/bad - they were starters, not backups. Only 2 were still on rookie contracts. Seems like the kind of wholesale clearing teams do to make a crap load of cap space. $17M is underwhelming taking into account the number of actual starters that need/ed to be replaced.

Edit: And by the way, that replacement at Center pretty much cleared out all of the current cap (accounting for rookie signings). Additional releases/restructuring is required to do anything else in FA.

So if you disagree with someone, that makes their perspective immature? Wow!

Definitely don't reach out to share a beer with me. We wouldn't get along very well.

I wasn't taking a shot at you IN THE SLIGHTEST! Furthermore, I didn't even have you anywhere in mind when I made the comment. You've been in this place a long time, and you absolutely should understand what I'm talking about. Damn, dude!

I didn't take it as a shot at me, but it just seemed like kind of an elitist comment. Honestly, it was kind of tongue-in-cheek on my part since it's hard to judge tone by a blog entry. I'm never spun up when I make comments here. I'm usually smiling the whole time.
