Have you grown numb to our lack participation in free agency

A lot of this of disappointment is perception based.  Panther fans tend to think in us versus the field view instead of a team by team view.

If in year 1 team a, b, and c spend on free agents then Panther fans complain everyone is.

If in year 2 team d, e, and f spend on free agents then Panther fans complain everyone is.

Then in year 3 Panthers spend.

Then in year 4 team g, h, and k spend on free agents then Panther fans complain everyone is.

In reality Panther spend as much as anyone.

Also a lot of our free agent dollars go to our own players.  Look at the contracts of Cam, Luke and Short.  Some of these other teams don't resign many of there own players.  We signed Reid this year.

Last year we signed Poe, that was a pretty big contract. Kalil was a huge contract.

The fact is other teams aren't really outspending us.  I'm not saying I'm happy with our lack of action but a lot of this belief that we don't spend is overplayed.

I will say thought that at times I feel we hand out numerous small contracts in the 2-3 m range that we might could replace with people making 600k.  If you do that enough that might give you an extra 5-8m that could help you sign a free agent.

Ahhhh who would miss the days of us signing key free agents like

Justin Hartwig

DJ Hackett

Ken Lucas

Tyler Brayton

Olindo Mare

Louis Murphy

Hakruki Nakamura

Ted Ginn Jr

Joe Webb

Thomas Decoud

Michael Oher

Roman Harper

Mike Tolbert

Kurt Coleman

When Tolbert, Coleman, Harper, Oher and Ginn are your best FA the last 12 years you know you gotta get really excited for FA /s

I've grown numb to the Panthers offseason in general. Every year seems to be the same, bitching because we are stuck with a couple guys who got their contract and either got fat and lazy or didn't live up to the hype, a couple in house extensions that make you scratch your head, and dumpster diving for 2 day old bread FA that should have retired 3 years ago.

That is followed by a lot of hype about how this year is going to be different, but it never really is, other than 2015.

How do you know we won’t do well with signing premium FA if we never even try??? Kalil was not a premium FA he was a bum in Minnesota and  the only other team that wanted him were the Viking themselves at a cheap discount.

We have been “shopping frugally” for 20+ years it has gotten us a 190-193 record.

If you think signing giant cap eating FA contracts is how to win, I would suggest doing some research on the Jaguars in the last 5 years. Here is www.google.com . Also check out their record during that time.

If you want a winning franchise, pray we run it like a business at some point. This friends first approach is garbage and needed to leave along with JR.

Yes, I don't really care about free agency especially the first week.

You can usually bank on the teams who sign players to mega deals in the first week of free agency to be sitting on their couches come January.

Yeah then we sign like legedue Nanaee. That guy was a monster, total game changer.

All of those teams have SB rings and back to back winning seasons though.

Dolphins and Redskins have not won a Super Bowl in the free agency area, and Tampa's was 17 years ago. The entire landscape of the league is different now. I would rather try to emulate teams that are actually winning in the modern area (i.e. Patriots), rather than trying to plagiarize C- students, but whatever floats your boat.

No one is thinking of signing cap eating FA contracts.

We what most logical fans what is one or two legit FA who fill our needs. And if it takes a little cap manipulation to do it, so be it.

I think I have debunked this patriots myth a 1000 times.

The patriots are ten times more active in free agency than we are. Two years ago they gave Stephon Gilmore 50+ million dollars, they also signed the number 1 TE in free agency that year with Bennett. A couple years before that they signed Revis and Browner in the same off season. They also are constantly making trades like Gordon or Cooks.

Just a reminder that Tampa Bay wins every offseason and finishes last every actual season.

I'm fine not overspending and building through the draft and filling in gaps as you go

I'm fine with that approach too.

I just wish we had a better GM executing it.

The methodology isn't the problem.
