Have you grown numb to our lack participation in free agency

I dont mind sitting out the crazy rush on FAs opening day. I am numb from the people running the team and the portion of the fan base that constantly props up their mediocrity. Of all the things I am ready for a change, going full stupid in FAs is not one of them. See last year and the pathetic attempt at signing players I wish we could dump this offseason. And please remember, we didnt sign Reid until Sercey had concussed his way out for the year.

Last year? Who did we sign that would be considered a premiere FA, Poe? Lol

panthers go dumpster diving year after year and we are the definition of a mediocre franchise record wise

The busiest teams in free agency are often lousy teams who have tons of cap space because they've been running WalMart discount bin teams for the last five years, or are basically maxing out their credit cards again (looking at you Washington Redskins), or have just blown up a team that had been a bunch of walking zombies for a decade (Gruden the Elder, in OakVegas).

Bad teams make big splashes like boulders thrown into a pond. And they are just as likely to sink to the bottom as those proverbial stones.

We're not one of those teams and I think our more measured approach is building a regular contender that isn't based on just one guy, like say the Saints of today or the Peyton Manning-led Colts of yesteryear.

If we can get Cam healthy again, wisely rotate some youth in to replace retiring or aged out vets while shedding that horrible Kalil contract, we'll be extremely competitive. A lot of the teams making the big splashes right now are throwing up prayers rather than following a plan. Be glad we aren't one of those teams.

It's funny, if you talk to fans of the Miami Dolphins, Tampa Bay Bucs, Washington Redskins, etc. that are known for big spending each year, they would say the same thing.

Yeah we have more trophy’s in our SB case than those teams

oh wait

At this point, should we ever be surprised at our lack of first day moves in Free Agency? Or how we always find ourselves with minimal cap space and a mediocre roster, saved by the graces of a few blessings in Cam, CMC, and Luke?  I'm actually glad that we haven't attempted to make a big push (gotten robbed) in free agency this year , because we all remember what happened last time with #75. Lets just all take a moment to thank god that we didn't hand Funchess a dollar and let some other idiot do it.

I never used the word premium, I did call it a pathetic attempt at signing FAs. And we did overpay for under production and that wasn't even for the top tier guys. Your reading comprehension needs work.

Then why did you bring up last season as an expample??? when in reality we have never been active in free agency.

And look where it was got us, no SB, no back to back winning seasons and a    190-193 all time record

What i didnt like about the Panthers in the past was the attitude of "we have/signed a 32 year old DE/FS/SS/LB/WR so no need to draft one early mentality

Maybe they realize they have to have a talented young nucleus with a few strategic FA moves in order to build a consistent winner

I brought it up because they didn't do well with the lower tier signings, so what in the seven hells makes you think handing out premium contracts to their kind of guys ends well for us as a team? Isn't that how we got the dead weight of Kalil? Shop frugally in FA and draft well. Evaluate value and be willing to try again. Pay the guys that project to produce tomorrow and not yesterday. Don't be afraid of competition or a young guy getting playing time. Things like that.

I don’t want to be involved in the day one signings.  These players rarely have decent ROI of these big contracts.  See Kahlil/Poe.  I want to pay our players and take undervalued other players later in FA and get more out of them then their contract dictates. Then they can be plucked by other teams for rediculous contracts and we can get comp picks in return.

It's frustrating, because you want to see your F.O. out there making deals, which I get it - the big bucks may not translate to wins, however there is the sense that visible measures are being taken to improve a team that has tons of weaknesses.  Not doing anything, or talking about any FA goals, gives off the vibe that the team is satisfied with where it is.  And I know changes are being planned, personnel wise through draft and FA, but on the outside, it looks like we're just content to sit back and watch our competition get the A players.  Sucks.

Perfectly said,  I am not better than any of the other posters as I would love to see us get someone.  But if you back up a minute and realize that there are still a ton of choices out there and after a couple of days and the smoke clears than we'll start seeing some reasonable offers.

I hate it but completely agree.

Good Post

How do you know we won’t do well with signing premium FA if we never even try??? Kalil was not a premium FA he was a bum in Minnesota and  the only other team that wanted him were the Viking themselves at a cheap discount.

We have been “shopping frugally” for 20+ years it has gotten us a 190-193 record.
