All of those teams have SB rings and back to back winning seasons though.

No one counts in this era pre Tuck rule and 5 yards PI off the receivers,..

actually im starting not to count any past the last couple of seasons with the flag football transition.

those were different eras on different planets.

I hope I'm wrong, but this feels like Tepper giving Ron and Marty all the rope they want....to see if they will hang themselves with it.

Treading water.

There is one little tinfoil hat type thing rolling around in the back of my mind, that being that Kevin Colbert's contract with the Steelers is up after this season.

Colbert is a successful GM and I'd expect the Steelers to keep him, but there's been some grumbling in Pittsburgh lately, mostly over the issues with Bell and Brown but also having to do with the team not reaching the big game for a while.

Some people blame Mike Tomlin (Tepper was said to be one of those) but the Rooneys seem pretty loyal to their coach. If someone has to be blamed, the sword could conceivably fall on Colbert instead.

But then an old acquaintance might have an opening for him, maybe...

Mind you, this is probably a combination of wishful thinking and a too tight tinfoil hat, but it'd sure be nice, wouldn't it? :)

To me I think Tepper said this is y'all's last chance. Hurney is like damn I'm scared I'm just not going to give out any contracts. SMH

I think this is a "last" chance for a lot of people.  Rivera, Hurney, Vernon Butler(If he plays every game, like he did the first Saints game, he'll be fine) Shaq, Kalil...

I'm just fine. It's not my money and there are smarter people than me on the job. So I'm good.

Here's Voth's article on panthers.com about it with some numbers. https://www.panthers.com/news/free-agency-bad-deals?fbclid=IwAR2mwQn4tHZfpXcuoQVHuvhH34w4YcknVcPKRyHgxkeZltXSfLd0VHrvWmw

We haven’t yet seen the Panthers go through a free agency under owner David Tepper, but we know his philosophy is to be “selectively aggressive.” What that looks like is something we’ll learn over the next few years. But right now, I wouldn’t expect him to charge his football folks to make big buys. Maybe there will be an unexpected opportunity if a player flies under the first-wave radar, but mostly, I’d assume the plan would be to fill holes with guys whose valuations fit their evaluations.

Not really I'm tired of the Pittsburgh ties ever since JR. It's time to be our own team, screw that.

glad we arent the jets, lions, raiders (although that may change but could you imagine the same people complaining about our current state how bad they would have complained at the raiders last year?), buccs, jags, browns, cards, skins or any of these other spring champions. amazing that a tough, manly sport like football has so many whiney bitches as fans.

Makes some sense.

I'm still legitimately shocked that Tepper kept Marty...Ron I kinda get for 1 more season, but Hurney was the head scratcher.  Let's see how it shakes out, but I'm feeling more and more like this is the last season we see Ron and Hurney running the show here.

Colbert is one of the most successful GMs in the league. I wouldn't pass up the opportunity to have someone like that guiding our team for a silly reason like being "tired of Pittsburgh".

Mind you, I think Joe Douglas is a more realistic GM possibility.

Being smarter than a fan isn't good enough. He has to be smarter than other NFL GMs.

Given his record against other teams, that doesn't look too likely to be true.
