Smith doesn't care what naysayers say

Torrey Smith's confidence certainly didn't take a hit last season. He knows what he can do, and he isn't talking like someone who is feeling "shot" and "done" and all the other negative adjectives being associated with someone in the twilight of their career. And, honestly, he still should have at least a couple of good years left.

“I was starting to be involved and then I got hurt. When I’m healthy I can play – period,” Smith said. “I’m well respected by my opponents and I believe in my ability. People look at it and say, ‘He didn’t do anything all year.’ But for me man, I don’t really worry about that. I know the people in our locker room know I can play.”

He is also ready to accept the role of mentor, and is excited about D.J. Moore and Curtis Samuel. He is also ready for more if it comes down to it.

“I’m fully capable of being the guy and fully capable of being a guy,” said Smith, who posted 17 receptions for 190 yards and two touchdowns last year. “I’m looking forward to continuing to guide and lead DJ and Curt. They are two very talented players and they’re going to be successful in this league for a long time. I’m also looking forward to competing and pushing everyone.”

Sounds like the annual spring article....”Matt Kalil is finally healthy and ready to go” that has com out for 5 straight years.

I figured with 5M on the line, he would say I suck and can’t catch. Who figured?

Smith has two Super Bowl rings (after playing key roles for each) and more than one decent season in his NFL career. He hasn't actually been an injury risk over his career either. The Kalil comparison is a little off kilter.

He played such a key role on that second one that his team couldn’t ship him out fast enough. They wouldn’t pay him 5M coming fresh off that ring. Last year. But we will. Hmmm.....which team is a little more successful lately?

NFL players are shipped out all the time, particularly role players who are journeyman. It's just the nature of the business. It's hardly a reason to imply that a player has no value. That's up to a team each and every season. Situations change each year.

We would have likely been viewed just as "successful" as Philly lately if we had had better management, coaching, and less turnovers in XL. But, one thing about it, we easily could have handed that team an L that season but for a bad play or two by Cam. We actually did beat their asses last year, and Torry played a key part in that victory.

Bottom line, I don't think Eagles are all that more successful than the Panthers. With a healthy Cam last year, we'd have beat that ass in the postseason.

If’s and but’s and could have and would have. But the fact is they didn’t want him at that price and announced they were going to cut him. What actually happened compared to fiction and hope

    • First of all Sooners fan? Mods? Second if you think someone needs a specific reason to hate Texas you don’t watch real college football.
    • 100% even if rest of team is really talented if they march young out to be qb and he plays like he has for 90% of his starts the panthers have already lost doesnt even matter how good the rest of the team is or isnt and also makes it hard to even tell how good they are.  They need true competition for young this offseason.
    • It will be awesome to have an improved stadium to lose in I guess....   https://www.yahoo.com/news/panthers-file-rezoning-bank-america-111500840.html     The Carolina Panthers have taken another necessary step toward renovating their home of the present and future. Panthers Stadium, LLC, filed its rezoning site plan with the city of Charlotte on Monday, initiating an important — if mostly technical — step toward renovating Bank of America Stadium. The filings state that the rezoning relates “primarily to technical aspects associated with improvements to Bank of America Stadium,” and that the rezoning is required because “the current stadium zoning is out of date” for the team’s stadium renovation plans.   The planned stadium updates include new seats installed throughout the upper and lower bowls; stadium safety and security enhancements; a reimagined South Lawn Pavilion; upgraded restrooms; exterior enhancements (including LED video boards) and more. Planning for the stadium renovation project will continue through 2025, with construction starting in 2026 and the renovation’s conclusion in 2029, The Observer previously reported.
