So what I've read in this thread, is the draft as a whole is a crapshoot no matter the draft pick, and all the more importance that the team does as much homework as it can on the player they end up picking.

IMO, it just points out that typically, impact pass rushers go in the top 10 picks, with some sliding into the 9-15 range, but rarely do you get a premier edge player after the first half of the 1st round.

It was really me just sitting there knowing we need offensive line and defensive end help badly, and me trying to remember the last high octane guy to go later in the 1st.  There aren't many.

Quit whining guys. We beat the Saints. Coaches and players play to win! Cam Jordan didnt get to send Cam Newton another Broom. A competitor like Kyle Allen only has one chance to prove he deserve to play in this league. We won. We beat the Saints!! Thats what stupid fans believe. Thanks Ron. Screw us big time.

Cam was technically "swept" this year.

@thefuzz Had a couple of days I was busy, here is what I came up with. I used Pro-Football-Reference.com's AV and Career AV metrics to base this off of. The raw results ended up as this:

Of 50 DE/Edge players drafted from 2009 to 2018(between 16th and the end of the second round):

At or above average careers(using Career AV/seasons played): 10 - 20%
Close to average(within 0.5 AV): 3 - 6%

At or above average high season(using high season AV of each player): 9 - 18%
Close to average(within 1 AV): 5 - 10%

Sorry about the different crop sizes but the data indicates that the percentage of players from the first round(below 15th) and the second round that end up producing as much as the top 15 drafted DE/Edge players is fairly low.

Edit: I just noticed that the Sacks and Tackles data for Cameron Jordan, Cameron Hayward and Jabaal Sheard are in the wrong order.

Hard to find immediate day one impact starters after the top 10, because there is such a premium for edge rushers.

There has also been a long time shortage of typical 4-3 de's, which has forced many teams in need to reach for their guys. Context is important.

If a big time edge is there we should jump at it...otherwise I agree

id pay Williams

Williams isn't worth FA top money. We hid him pretty well year before last with scheme. We are better off trying someone younger and not injured.
