Sam Amick: "Kemba More Likely To Leave Than Stay"

Recommended Posts

Sam Amick, a well respected NBA reporter for The Athletic with nearly 220K Twitter followers was asked in a Q&A whether or not he thought Kemba was going to re-sign in Charlotte.

Amick responded with the following answer:

"At this point, based on scuttlebutt around the league but without direct clarity from his side, it feels like he’s more likely to leave than stay."

Start preparing your lives for some of the most miserable basketball you have ever seen.

I’m more concerned about what is best for the Hornets...and keeping Kemba here is best for us right now

but we have got to get some more scoring...getting old seeing Kemba miss shots with game on the line, it happens way too much

Of course.  If we give Kemba a max deal we're going to have to hope for amazing draft picks because we won't be able to afford much else.  And the NBA knows if you double team Kemba and zone the rest, you can completely derail our offense unless it's a night where someone else surprisingly over delivers (Marvin or Lamb most likely).

Agreed about how teams play us/Kemba, but the other side of letting him go in Hope's of rebuilding/reconstructing a better overall roster is, we are not a premier free agent destination.  So, even if we didn't re-sign Kemba, we'll have to hit on our draft picks for years to come, because until we actually start winning, no great player will choose to sign with Charlotte anyway...  so, may as well keep Kemba and figure out the rest.  But, we desperately need to hit on a draft pick...  and not Monk, Bridges, or Frank.  I mean we need a big effin' hit.

Unfortunately history isn’t on our side when it comes to nailing a draft pick.  But with Mitch at the helm I guess we’ll see.

We have lost all leverage with Kemba. He can walk and we get nothing or we sign him to huge money and continue this treadmill path.

This is why I will continue to beat the dead horse and say we should have traded Kemba last year for picks. We would have been terrible this year and had a top 3 pick in a pretty strong draft.

I also hate the idea that fans won't support a tank. We have supported this shitty team for 30 yrs and even endured the Bobcat era. We watch our team blow 4th quarter games almost each and every game yet continue to watch so I say blow it up and start over.

Find a way for a sign and trade with Kemba to at least get some value back in return. Overall, I love Kemba and wish him well. It is best for both sides.

If the Knicks miss out on Kyrie there is a very real chance Kemba signs with NY. Dolan will be desperate to sign a superstar. Kemba can go home to NY and make bank? I see that as a very real possibility.

Honestly guys I love this team and I want nothing more than us to succeed. Isn't that by admitting we've seen the peak of this group of guys and they just aren't very good?

    • It didn’t feel like we’re the Bills bc we’re not a consistent conference contender yet we’re a rebuilding team. But with the game on the line we played just like the Bills went straight down the field and scored a tuddy then converted a 2pt conversion I have to give credit where credit is due. And the chiefs played us like we were the Bills in an AFC championship game, drive down the field and kicked a walk off FG to win at the end very similar to me. Are saying our defense stunk yesterday? Vs an elite offense team with elite coaching an elite QB man idk what you want them to do. KC does these things to the best defenses in the league consistently to win AFC chips and Super Bowls let’s not devalue who they are. I saw us play KC to the wire and barely lose defense did its thing as much as it could. Bingo!!! We’re also forgetting how injured we’ve been defensively this year, yes we need to build up the D but adding a few pieces and D Browns successful rehab should make us a very strong unit again. Couple that with the offense we saw yesterday and we’re winning our division.
    • Canales deserves a lot of credit. I'm very pleased. He's definitely making strides with Bryce. I also think some of his lack of commitment to Bryce as the starter is to motivate Bryce. I think he liked what he saw when Bryce was benched.  Even the Defense looks tremendously better with just a couple more pieces getting healthy. Wonnum has made our pass rush viable again.  I would love to see this team with one more good player across the defensive front, DT or an edge rusher.
    • I didn’t see any limitations yesterday
