The point many of us are making is that if he could be cut, which implies he's not worth his cap hit, then he should be cut.

It's better for the player, and it's better for the team.  But whatever.

The reason so many are freaking out about this move/non move, is we know who we have at GM and HC for this team.  Ron is known with sticking with vets far too long, and Hurney is known for making absurdly bad cap moves throughout his time here.

The point, many of us know there is a very high chance that Torrey is on the opening day roster at the 5M price tag...and man, that smells terrible.

Wait until Thursday if you think this is bad.

Hurney had a pretty aggressive year last year, pressure of staying around and all that.

I’m reserving judgement until after FA and the draft.

but yeh, we will see, could get real ugly.

I’m talking about MK. If he’s on this team Friday. I’m done. Not watching a quitter get another 7M for no reason. FA is going to be a disaster anyhow. We have done everything wrong so far.

Committing to Smith was smart...we have until sept to commit...when he was healthy he was a good contributor

Sure. Make Torrey a leader, carry him until camp is over, then screw him. I’m sure that WR room will love that. That should work out.

The GM knows, unlike you, that he can be cut at any time to obtain that 5 million.  It's about flexibility.

Why am I surprised that despite a giant topic about this situation that nobody looked at the situation?

Guess what unlike you I know they won't be cutting Smith because we like being mediocre. That's why I never even mention that because I guess I was already ahead of you?

Yeh it’s proven there’s no plausible reason cap or otherwise to keep him on the team. I’m not done after that but there definitely needs to be a statewide push to get these weirdos out of Carolina.

No, it wasn't.

Replacing his value can be done with a player on a vet minimum contract.

He started 6 games, played in 11, had 17 catches for 190 yards.

Brenton Bersin in 17 started 1 game, played in 8, and had 128 yards.

Bersin counted 4.7M less against the cap than Torrey did.

He's not good any longer, and was never that good to begin with.

Bersin stretched the field how many times ? Smith value tied directly to Cam's health...Bersin's was not
