Antonio Brown to the Bills (or maybe not)

I'd just call his camp and inform that he would be remaining a Steeler due to recent developments. If he had a problem with that, too bad. Prepare to play our your contract and be at work with no issues. Anything out of line will be a fine, not showing up will be a fine...ext.

The Steelers cap hit is the same, either way. His cap hit WITH the Steelers is $22M. Even if they trade him, his dead cap number is $21M. It's up to the Steelers if they want to continue down this road, or not. Considering what happened with Bell, I doubt they will ever just release him.

But, do they want to pay him for being a huge pain in the ass and distraction? Why wouldn't they just let him go? The comp pick is the only reason to keep him---well, that, and just to play hardball and get perverse pleasure by playing the "bigger asshole game." Is having a demonstrated malcontent that you have to pay either way worth a comp pick? That's what they'll have to answer.

It's funny you all say AB is not in control. Yet, he says he wants out, the Steelers oblige. He says he wants to play for a winner, Steelers say how about the Bills, AB says not showing up, Bills no longer interested in trading. If the Steelers can't find a good trade partner in AB's eyes and want to keep him and fine him, AB says he is retiring. Seems Steelers have less control than AB to me.

Do you really believe this?  If so, what do you believe "his terms" to be?

His terms are, "us this where I want to be? Is this my ideal situation?" If the answer is no, then he'll make an ass of himself so that the trade falls apart just like it did in Buffalo.

They can make him go (or, rather, his contract), but they can't force him on the field. They can't make him practice or play. He can retire or decide to just pay the fines if he wants to play.

Eventually whatever team gets him in that situation will get tired of messing with him and cut him loose and he'll get picked up by some desperate team with deep pockets or some team that is likely to get him a ring and go cheap.

If it's money or a Lombardi he wants, he'll sit and wait until he can get it. It will be the situation he wants or no situation at all and he retires. That's his terms.

You just can't make up fines under the NFLPA. He can be an ass all day and everyday in a variety of ways.

Just facilitate his departure by trading him to a destination that fulfills his wishes, move on, and look forward to your comp pick next year. That's the most practical thing to do. And that's why AB has some power in this situation.

I’m curious how much he will make next year if he doesn’t play? And how much would the Steelers owe him even if they cut him?

They're on the hook for 21 mil. If he doesn't play, he gets zero. If they decide to play hardball, he can play hardball by showing up and manifesting his displeasure in creative ways, all while not necessarily giving them AB effort.

oh most certainly can fine a player for a whole bunch of reasons. Teams have a conduct policy and the league has one. Either one can result in fines. Miss camp, fine. keep missing. can loose game checks..ext. Force his ass to play or retire.
