Antonio Brown to the Bills (or maybe not)

Lol, welp...  AB is in control lol.  The Steelers might not even broker the deal they projected before their own self-imposed deadline.

Honestly, it's playing out like I stated in the other thread about AB...  Once he came out and said the stuff about not having to play and threatening to retire, he tanked the Steelers returns lol.  It was a power play.  They still tried to deal him to Siberia and he wrecked it.  I'm guessing the Bills had close to the best compensation offer AND were a horrible destination and that's why the Steelers tried it...  now, they're gonna be forced to deal in AB's wheelhouse of wishes...  take lesser comp and send him to a more preferred destination.

Take a lesser deal? Yeah, they may have to do that.

Capitulate to his wishes? Not really. Schwartz was right about that.

Why do they have to release him? They are on the hook for about the same money whether they keep him or not.

ETA: Releasing a player does not result in the team receiving a compensatory pick. The player has to be a true unrestricted free agent.

I’m sure they could work out some kind of buyout. Just saying no ones going to give them a high pick if the dude isn’t going to sign an extension. You saw how the bell and brown drama affected that team last year. Can’t keep that kind of shitshow on your team and expect to seriously compete. At a certain point it’s triage

lol but but AB has no leverage or power!!!

He really has very little. Sure, he can pull the same trick if the Steelers try to trade him somewhere he doesn't want to go, but at the end of the day, he doesn't play a down of football ever again, unless the Steelers say he does.

There's a lot of parallel to the Barry Sanders situation with the Lions years ago. How'd that work out for Barry?

He already got paid for one game for nothing. I'm sure they don't want to pay him for a season of doing nothing. All he has to do is report to get paid, then he can just slack off and be an ass to make a point. Knowing his feelings and his history, do they really want to take that chance? Regardless if he does play that role, you know somebody is going to sign him in 2020.

The Steelers cap hit is the same, either way. His cap hit WITH the Steelers is $22M. Even if they trade him, his dead cap number is $21M. It's up to the Steelers if they want to continue down this road, or not. Considering what happened with Bell, I doubt they will ever just release him.
