he's made himself clear so idk why you're asking me to hold your hand here. he wants out and there's no reason to believe that he'll force himself to play if he's traded to a situation in which he doesn't want to be. if a team trades an asset for him and he retires then that team is really stupid for doing that but he's on record as saying he's made enough money, his house is paid off, he doesn't care. if a team trades a bullshit nothing piece like a conditional 6th or w/e then he left on his own terms because there's absolutely no chance the steelers would trade someone of his talent for such little return on their own terms. the only way the steelers salvage any value out of this situation is to either trade brown to a place he wants to go for a moderate return or convince one of these dumb franchises that he'll refuse to play for to give up an asset.

you people hate when players use their leverage lol. the ability to refuse to play is the best leverage they have and they would be fools not to use it, particularly in toxic situations like what's been going on in pittsburgh.

You cite "his terms"...

...exactly what do you believe "his terms" to be?

Be specific  (and concise, please).

PS...we know "he wants out", you don't need to barf that up again.

not playing this game with you dork. he's getting out and he's undercutting his trade value in the process, fuging the steelers over twice. it's what they deserve. sorry that makes you so mad lol

Did you mention "his terms" there?

What are "his terms"?  Plz name just one "term"....

lol he does have power. No team is going to trade decent draft picks for him if he is not committed to playing for them. That would be stupid. AB could threaten to retire and that would kill talks.

I think this is a rumor just to make other teams up their offer for Friday.

They may not be offering "decent picks".

And yes, he can choose not to play, but that also means choosing not to get paid.

For the talk of AB having leverage, the reality is, he has very little. The Steelers are already on the hook for more than $20M this year, whether he plays with them or not. Considering there are only a couple of teams interested, the Steelers have a couple of choices:

1. Hold on to Brown. AB may very well decide not to report, at which point the Steelers could place him on the suspended/reserve list. If he is not designated to return, he would miss the entire 2019 season.

2. They trade him for compensation. Looks like they tried to trade him to Buffalo, but the deal fell through, likely because Brown indicated he would not report. Again, the Steelers really have little to lose, at this point. They are the ones who get to choose who they engage in trade talks, not Brown. This was clear as the Steelers have not allowed Brown's agent the opportunity to negotiate with other teams.

AB could then choose not to play again. He doesn't have to. But because he retires on an active contract with the Steelers, they would continue to hold his rights until they decide if and when to release him. In the meantime, they could go after him to try and recover bonus money already paid to him.

They’re about to the point where they’re just going to have to release him, take the comp pick and wash their hands of it

Why do they have to release him? They are on the hook for about the same money whether they keep him or not.

ETA: Releasing a player does not result in the team receiving a compensatory pick. The player has to be a true unrestricted free agent.
