Panthers pick up option on Torrey Smith

Like most have said, IF he plays the season at that number?  Fire everyone.

He's a prime cut candidate (doubtful) at any point, but also an easy restructure/extend guy for a year to get the cap number down.  If he plays the season at that number I'd be shocked.

Again remember:  "The Panthers could still eventually cut Smith with no cap charge."

I'm not saying that this is the right term $ wise, but bring Smith to camp and see what he has.  He does provide some leadership for the young guys.

It wouldn't surprise me if he's then cut and maybe brought back at the correct price.  It doesn't help now, but I do see a reason behind it.

The guy they were pretty much forced to bench last year?  I see things are not changing unless as mentioned we're keeping him on through the offseason as insurance.  I dunno at this point.

Williams is as good as gone. Given they refuse to play Moton, we may actually get even worse on the OL this year.

So if we lose both Funchess and Smith..what WRs do we plan on picking up that we feel would make us better?

Cheaper sure, but I don't see any WRs on the market that would make me feel confident.

Plenty of WRs that would have come here to play for 4 or 3 million. Tyrell Williams comes to mind.

It would be addition by subtraction. Maybe that would mean that Moore, Samuel, and Wright would actually be the WRs getting the bulk of the snaps instead of Devin "Butterfingers" Funchess and Torrey "Hey, I Used To Be Fast" Smith.

But we'd still need multiple WRs.  Losing Funchess and Smith is losing what..1/3rd of our WR group, making us dangerously thin with no real back ups.

I would be amazed if Tyrell Williams signs for 3-4 million anywhere.  I expect him to eclipse the 5 mil Smith is getting easily.  Williams is expected to get the largest free agent contract out of all FA WRs this off season.  He is looking to become a WR1 or 2.  Not a bench warming WR4.  A 3-4m offer wouldnt even get to Tyrell Williams.  His agent would laugh it off.

That's a chargers fluff peace dude. He hasn't been all that great on a team that is offensive minded.

12m+ expected as both Colts and Raiders are pursuing him.

He wants to be a WR1.  No way he is signing *anywhere* with 3+ teams seriously after him for anywhere close to 5m.
