Marty Hurney and cap room savings?  Nah

Serious question: based on on-field ability alone, Better Value....T Smith @ 5 million or BBersin ish #4 WR at league Min?

The answer should say DO NOT EXTEND HIM!

Maybe it should but it doesn't...

You guys think he’s #4 under Rivera as a vet for 5mil?

Samuel and Moore will be riding the bench. Again.

This is ron we are talking about after all.

Again....what was the WR depth chart in the second half of the season after Torrey came back from injury?

“BUT RON AND HIS VETS!!!!”

Well seeing as he has experience in Norv’s offense, yes. How about Cotchery as an assistant? How about the coaches provide leadership along with the other bet leaders. We don’t need Smith.

I agree. Nothing about Smith makes since right now. Unfortunately, that's not abnormal with this crew.

how important it is to have veteran leadership

Oh, indeed.

That awesome veteran leadership that Philly Brown and Devin Funchess got from Jericho Cotchery back in 2015 made them the All-Pro's that they were then and are today!

(P.S. This is *not* a criticism of Jericho Cotchery, btw.  It is just a clear example of how important "veteran leadership" is when accompanied by poor coaching.  Like under Ron Rivera.)

ouldn't Wright be our veteran leadership? He is better than Smith, he is clutch and no one complains about what he makes.

Exactly.

The fact that people keep trying to invent this amazing "veteran leadership" B.S. from Smith, fed to the non-adversarial media mouthpiece's of Charlotte's sports journalism by the Carolina Panther's management and coaches, tells you all you need to know.

That “leadership” dropped more passes in the Super Bowl than he did his entire time here. We were cursed.

So if we lose both Funchess and Smith..what WRs do we plan on picking up that we feel would make us better?

Cheaper sure, but I don't see any WRs on the market that would make me feel confident.

Adam humphries, donte moncrief

Adam Humphries is easily one of the best slot receivers right now.  Every year he has gotten better and is going to get paid.  He just had 816 yards while competing with  Evans, Jackson, Brate, and Howard for touches.  I expect 10m+ here.

Moncrief just made 9.6m last year.  And the Jets with huge cap room and a big need for WR are already interested.

Don't get me wrong..if we got either of those for 5m it would be amazing and I would love it.  But I expect both to sign for 9m+ minimum.  We have our starters in Moore/Samuel  Moncrief and Humphries (at what we would have to pay them to come here) would be starting over someone.

To suggest a name myself, so that I am not always just disagreeing and offering nothing..I would say someone like Chris Hogan but I expect him to resign with the Pats.  There are people like Crowder (most recently of Redskins), that could probably be gotten for cheap as he was injured in his contract year, but is most likely looking for a spot he can work into the starting rotation.

Its tough to find a WR that *could* step in if Samuel was injured again, for example.  But is also content with sitting the bench and not pushing for a starting job.

If we completely believe in our coaching, and feel they can 100% be fine with the teaching of Moore/Samuel and having a veteran around to give them additional "coaching", insights, whatever is not needed?  Sure.  Cut him.

But we sure do seem to complain about the coaching a lot here.

I could very well be wrong, and thats fine.

The next few weeks is when it would be more helpful to have the money, not closer to week 1. We just missed on Weddle and he got $250k more per year than Smith. It’s already hampering us.

We're currently showing almost 15 million in cap space and that's with the Smith money and the draft pool set aside. Please explain how that translates to missing out on Weddle due to Smith's contract. We clearly could have paid the 5.25 million. We still could have cut smith and gave Weddle 20 million. THere's no logic to your claim that Smith's contract is hampering us.
