Panthers pick up option on Torrey Smith

Would rather have Terrible terrible Funchess. poo,  I’d rather pay less and get 150lb JJ Nelson. At least he can still run fast.

Edit: here is a good one. John Brown is a FA coming off of a 1yr $5 mil contract. Is faster and can catch better than Torrey. Would take him over Smith any day of the week and it isn’t close.

If Cam's arm does heal up perfectly (let's hope this is the case) then there is a legitimate need for a WR with good hands and a good set of downfield jets. Smith provides that

Torrey Smith's yards per reception since 2015:

2015 - 20.1

2016 - 13.4

2017 - 11.9

2018 - 11.2

Torrey Smith's catch percentage (receptions divided by targets) since 2015: 50.7%

If this is an actual post from the offical Carolina twitter account, it just goes to show how the disorganization, rot, and disrespect for its own fan-base has deeply penetrated the Carolina Panther's management and organization.

But I guess Ron and Marty can enjoy a nice, ice-cold Pepsi while they rail against fans who actually want him to be held accountable.

Less than a year in and David Tepper has already been a total doofus and disaster.

Sad thing is, the twtter GMs and armchair coaches figure out and point out what needs to be done usually weeks ahead of when the mighty Panther braintrust gets around to doing exactly whats been pointed out.

60 targets    30 catches   4 tds   stretch the field...would be well worth the 5 mil ...Get Cam healthy and block for him and keeping Smith is a non issue ....

This. So much this. Smith is a JAG. You can get that level WR for near veteran minimum after the free agency rush cools. I'm sure there are other veteran WRs out there who would be really nice guys in the lockerroom for a helluva lot less than $5M and maybe they wouldn't tempt Ron to play them over guys like Moore, Samuel, and Wright.

But we already had him. Nobody was going to enter a counter bid. And IF a better option comes or If we find a cheaper option OR we decide we need that cap money for something else before week 1, release him and move on.

The next few weeks is when it would be more helpful to have the money, not closer to week 1. We just missed on Weddle and he got $250k more per year than Smith. It’s already hampering us.

Who said we just missed him...lol...he wasn't coming here

Its hilarious to me that some of you think that there is an extremely limited market of available BAD wide receivers out there.

"Golly how can we ever replace our current overpaid BAD wide receivers!  How in god's name will we find cheaper BAD wide receivers to replace them with?  WHERE OH WHERE CAN WE FIND SUCH UNICORNS!!!?!?!?!?!?"

Ok.  Lets ignore some other obvious things I stated.

Like how when you have an extremely young starting group (Moore/Samuel) how important it is to have veteran leadership behind them.  We need a strong vet behind them.  Period.  This isn't about finding some warm body to fill up a depth chart slot.

Like pairing a vet QB to back up your rookie QB you just drafted.
