This could have been spent anywhere... that’s 5 mil more for a Lt Cb or pass rusher but u throw it at a guy who is clearly behind moore and Samuel and probably wright. Not to mention Olsen and maybe Ian Thomas. I would rather keep Byrd. Draft a young wr in the 4-7 range. Anything but this.

If this is an actual post from the offical Carolina twitter account, it just goes to show how the disorganization, rot, and disrespect for its own fan-base has deeply penetrated the Carolina Panther's management and organization.

But I guess Ron and Marty can enjoy a nice, ice-cold Pepsi while they rail against fans who actually want them to be held accountable.

Less than a year in and David Tepper has already been a total doofus and disaster.

So if we lose both Funchess and Smith..what WRs do we plan on picking up that we feel would make us better?

Cheaper sure, but I don't see any WRs on the market that would make me feel confident.

Well, Funchess and Smith didn't/don't inspire confidence either.

There is the advantage that new WRs, even if they don't turn out being any better, would at least be cheaper.

But we'd still need multiple WRs.  Losing Funchess and Smith is losing what..1/3rd of our WR group, making us dangerously thin with no real back ups.

Its hilarious to me that some of you think that there is an extremely limited market of available BAD wide receivers out there.

"Golly how can we ever replace our current overpaid BAD wide receivers!  How in god's name will we find cheaper BAD wide receivers to replace them with?  WHERE OH WHERE CAN WE FIND SUCH UNICORNS!!!?!?!?!?!?"

This. So much this. Smith is a JAG. You can get that level WR for near veteran minimum after the free agency rush cools. I'm sure there are other veteran WRs out there who would be really nice guys in the lockerroom for a helluva lot less than $5M and maybe they wouldn't tempt Ron to play them over guys like Moore, Samuel, and Wright.

Do you honestly believe they're actually going to do anything of the sort?

I honestly think some people just want to ignore how Ron and Marty do things.  There is NO evidence that Ron and Marty would activate an option on a contract for any other reason than that they intend to keep that player on the roster.

Hell, that's why all this "He's a leader in the locker-room!  He'll help the young WRs adjust to the NFL!" bull ca-ca is being fed to the totally un-adversarial Charlotte sports media so that they can mouthpiece the bull ca-ca to support managements idiot decision.

To all the people saying “Here comes Vet Lover Ron to put Torrey in over our young guys next season!” - remind me, what was the depth chart when Torrey came back from injury in the second half of the season? But by all means, don’t let facts get in the way of your narrative.
